Hmmm the price of the R8 suggests you should enjoy it more than the 50... as we know the current value of a car is the NPV of your eventual sale price plus the NPV of all the intervening enjoyments that you get from it before you sell it. Therefore, since we know the R8 will depreciate more, we know that the market is valuing the expected enjoyments greater than it is for the 911.

Interesting. I doubt they would honor the free maintenance that came from Chevy on the C7's though.. I have always said that the C7 definitely feels like is shares more with the Cadillac parts bin 
Probably the best value sports car you can buy right now.
I honestly think you are making a good decision. My wife really wants a new R8 and convinced her to hold onto the C7 for another year or two. We will hopefully grab her a lightly used one at a major discount. That's honestly the only way I would buy another R8.
I'm really trying not to be bias with my advice on the R8 (having owned one and currently owning a 911). If you were contemplating going for a 570S/570GT, I would be your biggest supporter
Probably the best value sports car you can buy right now. Well, I have done a lot of soul searching. My Porsche SA didn't want me to have buyer remorse. Most Porsche/car guys felt the 911/50 was more special than the R8. I could do the R8 for less than 40K tax-in which I thought was reasonably fair. Most felt that in another 3 years my 2014 911/50 would be worth more than a 2018 R8. R8's are not tough to get which says a lot. So I have decided to keep my car for now. I can always change my mind again. It is interesting that no one said go for it with great enthusiasm.
I'm really trying not to be bias with my advice on the R8 (having owned one and currently owning a 911). If you were contemplating going for a 570S/570GT, I would be your biggest supporter

In terms of future value there is 0% doubt in my mind that the 911/50 will surpass the R8 in value very soon.
Keeping it, you even may end up having an "appreciating investment" in the long run, if you don't drive it much... but this may or may not be the case.

In fact it doesn't get driven that much. 12000 Km in 3.5 years (about 8000 miles). It's never been to the track and only been in the rain 3 times. I admit it's a garage queen. The McLarens' are really nice but not for a summer DD. I also find them hard to get in and out of. At my height I have to duck under the scissor doors.

I owned Vettes for 14 years before moving to a 911 and have never met a Vette owner who had his car serviced at a Caddy dealer. I would rather find a Chevy dealer with a great Vette tech (not that hard to find) or go to an independent.

you got totally fleeced if u traded in your r8 for 40% off MSRP - 80k. 40k is more appropriate and what trade in value is currently.

Quite frankly I wouldn't touch either brand with a bargepole.
While Vette's are nice cars, Chevy dealers generally are completely ****. Every time I went in for a test drive of a Vettel I felt i was dealing with some slimy used car dealer. Then I just gave up. One time I did test drive a Corvette in Miami, and the dealership was overrun with swarms of roaches. They even had roaches inside some of the new cars. It was ridiculous.
If Trump institutes a 35% tax on German imports, it's going to be difficult.

I have a friend that is considering a 2014 V8 R8 at the moment. We met for drinks last night and I gave the disclaimer that I absolutely love my 911.... that looks were subjective and arguably we may not love the looks of a 911 if not for the engineering.
That being said - I'm trying and can't find a single review, youtube video or article that crowns the R8 over a Porsche.... even a track comparison shows a Boxtster Spyder beating an R8(v8) spyder.

Early in the R8V8's life, there was the October 2008 Motor Trend, with one of the most comprehensive handling tests I have ever seen. Pick up a back issue just to marvel in the glory of a scientific test. The R8 easily beats a 911 Turbo.
Later that Year, in Road and Track, a V8 R8 does it again to the 911 Turbo.
In the intervening years, they were much closer in comparos. For example, the next Motor Trend best handling test was re-focused as the "Best driver's car" and the Cayman S was chosen over the R8...but mostly for daily driving. It lost all the test parameters to the R8 V8.
The Last full test of the R8 V8 was the April 2012 EVO mag test. The headline for the test was "911 BEATEN"
In it, they test the new 991S against the old R8 V8 and the R8 comes out as the favorite.
