I believe the R8 non-plus has a smoother ride. Different suspension. But you are absolutely correct that the proof will be in the test drive. There is another possibility. That is wait for the 992. The early spy shots show the interior to be like the new panamera which is beautiful. I have always said that if you are replacing a 911 go for 2 versions newer---- not 1. In other words, other than the GT3 I wouldn't trade for a 991.2. I would wait for the 992. The GT3 is NA which to me is the biggest selling feature.

Sounds like the R8 is going to check all the boxes for you.

But if you're still in the test driving stage, why not drop by an Aston Martin dealer and take the Vantage V12 for a test drive ...

I think you can fit comfortably in one. Just don't drive it 2 hours straight without chiropractor appointment!
I gotta tell you that was really nice of you to measure that for the OP

Why all the faux black plastic honeycomb on the R8? That would drive me crazy. Even on a $20k car, let alone a $200k one.

There is no "best". Pick your best and there is a handful of cars that perform better at the weakest point of yours... yet have other flaws.

At this level and price point of car, the only true discriminator is that you have to get the car that speaks to you. Graphs and data no longer matter. Either there is some unquantifiable emotional connection or there isn't. No forum replies will matter because nothing can convince you to have that connection.
Agreed. I've said the same of any car in the six figure mark. When you are spending that much money on a vehicle the choice is almost entirely passionate. At that price everything is fast, has status and stands out. Its a very personal decision that differs greatly from person to person and what matters in your heart, matters as much as whats in your wallet.. because it isn't a financially wise decision. This isn't an Accord vs Camry decision.

I agree completely. I love my 911/50 but the R8 just catches my eye. If the price is right and it is comfortable it is at least worth a close look.

And really if you can get an almost equal trade on your 50 why not?

List price on R8 non-plus is 184.Dealer has offered very close to that. Don't forget my 911/50 is probably the most highly optioned in NA.Ceramics burmeister pdcc glass sunroof PDK and way more. With tax it came to 206 new. So thats how.

Sounds like the GM/owner wants your car. That is an incredible trade in to get it close. That certainly will not happen a few years down the line with the 8. It holds ok but not that well. The R8 is a great car. Watch enough racing/endurance racing (Sebring, Daytona and European) you will find just how impressive the R8 is.

A close friend of mine has 911-50, a very special car. I've never driven the R8 but after 3 Audis, I can tell there is something about them that bores me quickly and I wind up getting out of them ASAP. Sorry to offer a negative opinion, but the R8 styling looks clunky and forced (to me), not organic. Before you leap, look at the AMG GT or 911 TTS. I think you'll suffer real buyers remorse trading your 911. Also, take a look at trade in values of R8s, you can expect the same depreciation. Good luck though. I understand what it's like to be smitten.

This...I let it do its thing shifting daily but I know to lift off the gas ever so slightly like you would in a manual. No more jerky...Its just finesse on the throttle and yup being involved Something no one else is on the interstate these days (f me and my commute). The brain programming could be better on mine so on the track I will do the down shifting say coming out of a long straight to a slow turn it doesn't always drop the extra gear I need but does perfect in any other condition on the track...they have got that right in all the rest of the Audi's since. My RS5 and RS7 always had it right.
