991.2 Oil Change Procedure (with photos)

Burning Brakes
I slide my cell phone under the car and tried to take a picture of the plug. Its a little fuzzy, yet shows the drain plug slot in alignment with the 2 arrows on the pan....
Thanks again to all for your input and assistance.

Burning Brakes
My 2017 991.2 needed an oil change last week and I couldn't find my rubber pad for the floor jack. So I decided to see if I cuold slither under the car and undo the diain plug with the car on the garage floor. It was no problem at all, using the stubby tool that easily removes the plastic drain plug. I ended dropping both the plug and the tool into the drain pan, but they were easily retrieved the next morning after the oil stopped draining and cooled.
Probably won't be using a jack for this procedure ever again.

That's why I like my low ramps. Easy to drive onto, and no need for a jack. But the extra 4 inches makes working under the engine much easier.

@Rich_Jenkins does resetting the service interval void the warranty?
Warranty doesnt require dealer to do the work, just that it is done.

I would keep evidence that the work was done, like service receipt from an independent shop or receipts for parts and oil if DYI.

But certainly if someone feels more comfortable getting under warranty maintenance work done by the dealer, so "they have a record", that's understandable. I just find the price they charge for certain basic things (e.g. swap cabin and frunk pre-filter, oil change, brake rotors and pads) is outrageous. For some service work, sure. For example I am not able physically to deal with the shenanigans of R/R spark plugs which are coming up at my next 30K service, so I plan to have the dealer take care of that.

The left fan does not need to be disconnected at all. Just set it aside with the intake duct. The right fan’s wiring plug does not need to be separated....just use a trim tool to pop the two grommets that hold the wiring to the intake duct. Then set the fan aside to get enough room to unscrew the filter housing, which is guaranteed to spill oil. Be ready.

1) open oil cap
2) open oil plug
3) loosen filter slightly
4) wait
5) remove filter after oil drained
No mess.

Thank you all for the great info in this thread.
Does anyone have a part number for the clips (shown in the pics below) that hold that fan wiring harness in? Being very careful and using a trim removal tool, my clips still happened to break! So I'd caution all to be careful of this.
In another post (#148) there's mention of the connector just sliding out this this clip with a tab depressed. I'm thinking this is the proper way to do this--I can't imagine these clips holding up well to multiple rounds of being popped out. Even one pop out damages the little wings holding them in. I'd guess these clips are meant to stay in place. And, as mentioned in post #148, the intake duct and fans should come out as one piece.
Thanks!

bkrantz, excellent writeup that definitely helps. I just did my second oil change on my 991.2 at 7000 miles and one year and would suggest a small refinement.
Rather than completely remove the fan connectors from the intake duct--they are very tight--I found it easier to simply separate the connector from the mount. The connector has a flat shoe on the bottom that slides into the mount. All you do is depress one side of the mount and connector slides off. Here's what it looks like:
Attachment 1241082
Also, I was able perform this oil change by simply jacking up the left rear of the car to reach the drain plug. I lowered it to facilitate the oil draining and then jacked it back up to replace the drain plug. No ramps required.

bkrantz- just used your write-up and it was spot on. Thanks very much.
For reference, I used race ramps under the rear only and needed 9.5 qts. to get slightly above the mid range on the oil quantity measurement screen.
Used Mobil 1 0w40. I know some are using 5w50 and am curious the reasons, climate, use, dealer rec., etc.

My 991.2 C4GTS drained 8.5qts on quick jacks. Others here have put the rear only on ramps. I don’t remember what they drained but it’s in this reads if you go back and read.

I changed the oil on my 18' 991.2 GTS Coupe yesterday (3rd time!). I got back almost 9.5 quarts, after raising the drivers side with the rear jack point, then lowering to get the "the rest" out using a "low profile" pan, before raising again to reinstall the plug. No matter what you do you are going to leave over 3 quarts of used oil in the nooks and crannies of the engine, so it doesn't make sense to obsess about the last drop (like the quarter cup in the filter housing, see pic). No matter how you lift your car, the best way to gauge how much oil you need to fill is to measure what came out. Makes it foolproof. I use the 5 quart jugs the Mobil 1 comes in, they have a nice measuring strip on the side.
PS another variable how much you get out: how much you started with. I generally keep mine topped off, full green or one bar below.
