That's great to hear, the 991.2 seems like it's be an absolute beaut to drive. Haven't had the chance to get behind the wheel yet.

Porsche just got back saying they're ordering a new PDK which should be here Thu or Fri. Seems like it was an actual transmission issue, not the crossover valves. I asked if it would be a new PDK or a rebuilt one and the service adviser was pretty adamant that Porsche never uses rebuilt transmissions???

You'll be fine. Brand NEW transmission, and you'll be back on the road. High rev, great sound, and screaming RPM's, what's not to love? Let BMW play the torque game. Enjoy the experience in the .1

I just had issues 2 & 3 popup last night on my 2018 C2 with 2000 miles. Don’t see much here about 991.2 with the PDK issues, hoping it’s a simple fix but it won’t go into R and the other gears are hit and miss.

Anyone else have this issue on a 991.2? Could it be as simple as a software issue?

Ugh.. this happened to me this AM!!!

"Transmission fault Poss. no R gear Drive on poss."

Started it, put it in Sport Mode, heard a clunk and some chatter.. thought "oh sh*t" turned it off, let it sit for a bit and did it again. This time would not go in to R or D, let it sit and tried again.. CLUNK.. won't go into any gear.. UGH! Porsche Roadside sent the wrong tow truck, then the short flatbed and took an hour to load w/o ripping the front end off my car.. finally got it and the dealer said my warranty will go far with this repair.. whatever that means, it doesn't sound like just an electric issue/fault.. sounds mechanical.

991.1 C2S w/ 40K miles.

YIkes.. well, brand new tranny incoming. The reverse gear dropped and shredded the gearbox. Covered under warranty.. thank goodness.

So does anyone know what the actual failure rate is on the PDK?

I read about issues here and there but doesn't sound too prevalent...

I have 2019 7M Carrera 4 on order, freeze date 10/05. Previously considered the PDK and was still giving it thought.

The above has solidified the 7M choice. The advantages of the PDK are indisputable, failures may be few, but I don't want to be one of the few.

Good luck to everyone with the repairs.

Stuff breaks. Moving to a manual will not change that fact. Check out this thread.

Craziest repair bill/situation I've yet to see with respect to the 991.

What was the cost if not covered?

Note that the transmission part of the PDK and the manual tranny became mostly the same starting in the 991.1. The big difference is in the clutch part of the assembly. Here's a quote from the Porsche Techniks manual.

"The 911 Carrera (991) features a 7-speed manual transmission as standard, which is unique in the sports car segment. The transmission is essentially derived from the Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK), with the gear ratio of the 3rd and 7th gears adapted to take account of the manual gear changes. The 3rd gear has a higher ratio, which reduces consumption. The 7th gear has a lower ratio to maintain the tractive force even at comparatively low speeds."'

and

"Since the manual transmission is based on the Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) and the gears in the PDK are not positioned in an opposed arrangement, a completely new internal gearshift mechanism had to be developed. The aim with the new internal gearshift mechanism is to convert the shift pattern to the H pattern."

It's not clear to me if the failures have tended to be in the transmission section or the clutch section on the PDKs. In either case, it appears the gearbox portion of both trannies is not made to be field repairable.

So of course once my car got hauled to the dealer the errors were no longer displaying and all the gears worked normally. The dealer talked to Porsche and Porsche wants them replace the valve body. If it happens again Porsche wants to replace the transmission.

I have the same car and was wondering if you had any indication of trouble before the error messages popped up such as funny sounds or sluggishness in shifting?

Not that I ever noticed. But this is my first 911 so I’m not quite dialed in to the normal sounds of a 911.
