Man this thread made my day, I hadn't run across it yet. My first Porsche (Base C2) gets delivered right around Christmas. I think what I love most about this thread is all the different combinations. Everyone has a different taste and they're all great. Mine is different from all of these and I can't wait to share.

I know this is just semantics but why do we refer to the Carrera as a "base 911"?

I have a Carrera S and I have never generally referred to another 911 as a base. I usually just call it a Carrera or C2 if it is not an S or other trim. There is nothing "base" about most non-S Carrera's.

I think the only 911 that should be considered "base" would be a Carrera with literally no extra options checked on the configurator. Just my .02.

I referred to them as C2, C2S, etc. Not trying to start a fight, just seemed odd to me, perhaps I have been wrong, I have been referring to mine as a 911 C2 ; )
I guess one person's "cheap" is another's "pure" or "before frills" or "classic" or "no clock on the dash thingy needed". I kind of like it. This video offers some insights.

I think you may have missed his point. He is saying that referring to any car model as a “base” makes that particular model sound cheap and there is nothing cheap about a Carrera with no options. It’s an amazing car.

It’s the word “base” he and others (including myself) have a slight issue with. When someone generally refers to something as being “base” it typically is missing a lot of key features that makes it special. This is not the case with the 911.

A no options Carrera is just a more pure/raw sports car. Even referring to a no options Carrera as a “stripper” sounds better as that at least implies light and pure. Just my opinion anyway.

As a nearly-base owner myself (C4) I have two points. First, why would anyone care what someone else calls your car? Secondly, by definition, it certainly meets the textbook definition of “baseâ€, which is as follows: “A foundation or starting point for further work.â€
I’m surprised that people don’t have anything more important in their lives to worry about than this.

Here's my new 2017 C2 Cab. It's my third Porsche, but my first new one! A dream car of mine, this one was at a local dealer with almost all the options I wanted (missing LED lights) at a great price so I picked it up. October is a wonderful time of year to buy a convertible if you're patient. Now it sports winter wheels, Pirelli SottoZeros and a complete front-end clear bra to get me through the cold Ohio winter ahead.

I think you could name it "ham sandwich" and very few will confuse the word "Porsche" with the word "cheap".

When you own a base, here's where you shop.

Most folks around here don’t like the tail up and tend to tease others.
