Default Porsche Service Loaner Thread

Not sure if we already have a thread devoted to Porsche service loaners, but figured it might be fun to start one.

Anyways my 991.1 had to go in for service because of some undetermined engine issue (engine randomly shut off while I was parked, and then I got a warning that said: low engine power, ok to drive on).

The good news is that I got a 2016 Cayenne base loaner as my rental vehicle and I have to say I'm impressed!

Specs:
White exterior
Agate Grey interior
Base, PDK, Ventilated Seats

My nickname for this car is "the speedy white rhino."

Pros:
1. luxurious interior - my girlfriend is in love with the car and has already asked if we have to give it back. The answer is yes.
2. Comfortable ride
3. Quite peppy for a base model. I'm sure the "s" model is worth the extra dough but honestly this thing has a lot of power.

Cons:
1. I'm not an SUV guy ... so basically any con I would give this car would be because of my own personal bias. If I had two kids I would be driving the new panny turbo.

All in all - well done Porsche ... it's no surprise that they're selling a ton of these things .... looks gorgeous on the inside and out and chicks dig it (or at least my girlfriend digs it).

Cheers,

Josh

@bradb - Porsche knows what they're doing ... they want every 911 owner to have a Macan or Cayenne in their garage ... they're such great, practical cars.

I had a base Cayenne loaner and I thought it was a total POS, underpowered with lousy ergonomics. Then I thought about it, and realized that 99% of the people out there would kill to have a car like that, and here I am, complaining!

Next service visit (years later) I got a 981 Boxster S. I loved that car so much that I ended up selling my new 991 and bought a used 981 S.

Looking back, I must have had a first gen Cayenne, so I'm sure they're better now.

My loaners so far:

1. 2016 Cayenne (love it, took it on a 500 mile road trip and it was perfect).
2. Audi A3 Quattro (I service my car at a combination Porsche/Audi dealer; I didn't think I'd love it, but I did. Also took it on a road trip with a lot of rain and it was a little beast).

My last loaner was a Panamera 4. Didn't like it at all. Felt big, heavy, and boring.

I usually get a loaded Cayenne, but last week, I had a Panamera S Hybrid. I felt every pound of that monster too, it made my car feel like a go cart in comparison.

I got a base Cayenne. Not a good car in the base configuration.

Just had a Panamera 4 as a loaner. It was nice and roomy, but didn't really remind me of a Porsche. Power delivery was adequate, but it drive through the corners akin to a battering ram.

I test drove a Macan S with the wife, and that was much truer to the spirit of the brand.

For my first year of ownership (I bought used and not from a dealership) my dealership had loaners (rentals) available (at no cost) from Enterprise - always wound up with a new C class Mercedes. They never really impressed me.

This past year, my loaners have included a new Cayenne Diesel, a new Boxster S, and a new Panamera.

The Cayenne had a lot of torque but still felt like a big SUV. It didn't really turn me on. I think I would prefer the Macan. Hope to get to drive one some day!

The Boxster S was amazing - a lot peppier than I expected, loved to rev. I'm not a big convertible fan and I much preferred my 911S (991) but I still liked it a lot. I would have no problem recommending one.

The Panamera was very nice - new, MSRP ~ 100k, drove wonderfully. Great highway cruiser with sufficient power. Quieter than the 911, very comfortable. Still, no replacement by an stretch for how engaging the 911 is and the four seats (and not five) are a deal breaker for me. The looks were also polarizing - I like the looks of the new 2017 Panamera much more.

Worst I've had was a base Boxter PDK. The floor and the gas pedal were frequent friends.

I just got a base Cayenne loaner for my 911 1 year service loaner and loved it. White with the two tone black & tan interior. Beautiful and very nice to drive for an SUV. Our current SUV is a Grand Cherokee which is a great car for the money. Long story short - we want to buy the Cayenne.

Prior to driving one I did not like these things. Funny how things can change.
