Default Dropping side mufflers.

Hi,

Just got our base 14 991 3-4 weeks ago and now I am waiting for Fister Exhaust. Darin was nice enough to send me a set to try it out. I have been reading pages and pages of the discussion to learn everything about the car and also the instructions on how to swap out the side mufflers. It seems all the actual instructions I've read were for 997s (from youtube, too) which are consistent with what people said about the 991, just unbolt the hardware and they will just drop. I took a brief look under the bumper tonight and it looked like the gap between the cat and the bumper cover ( or shield) where the muffler suppose to drop through was pretty narrow, much narrower than the muffler itself. The guy on youtube with the 997.2 said you have to turn it 90 degree to drop it but I am still not sure if that will work. He didn't even remove the wheels. Can some one confirm this? The picture below seems to have bigger gaps than what I saw.

Thx

Looking at this the bumper is so easy to take off and the whole job is made a tonne easier without it. So whilst it might just be possible you can see everything and make a nicer job with the bumper out of your way...

Very interested!

Are you replacing the side mufflers, or deleting them with bypass pipes?

and while you have the bumper off, you can take the opportunity to change your air filters, knock out 2 birds with 1 stone

Will removing the side cans affect low end torque? I have the awe xpipe.

I am repacing just the side mufflers with Fisters only. Dont want too loud. If you find a sound clip for the base 991, please post because i searched and searched...

I will try to do it with the bumper cove on but will see. Eventually, i'll do my own maint so i need to know how to remove the bumper cover anyway.

I am pretty sure it will decrease the low end torque.

With AWE valves open I feel a torque increase in low and mid rpms. Based on this I think taking out the side mufflers won't impact low end torque.

Yea, it's funny because when I had the SW xpipe previously I felt a loss in low end tq but now i changed to the awe xpipe and feel a big increase in low end torque. The true x/h pipe exhaust savaging does work from experience.

Anyways, does the awe switch patch values bypass the side cans and routes the exhaust directly from the headers via xpipe then out to the tips?

If that is the case than lower end tq wouldn't be affected too much with the side cans removed.

Thanks
