GTI daily driver?

As an owner of a 2011 S4, the VW GTI has always intrigued me, as well as the R. I would really like to get one at some point but would mostly be concerned about the safety ratings with it being a slightly smaller car. I need to look into that and if it performs could see myself getting one at some point. Being a taller guy at 6'5", being able to get a car without a sunroof and have tons of interior room appeals to me. The interior is nicely appointed. Overall, have nothing negative to say about it. Maybe a next car for me.

Yes you can unplug the soudaktor in the R as well. Takes less than 10 min.

This, of course, is a primary reason why compact cars theses days weigh 3000 lbs instead of 2000.

I recently sold my 2015 BMW M235i and picked up a 2017 Audi TTS. The “less practical” Golf R. Actually, we liked the Golf R but wanted something a little more unique and since we only needed room for our dog, on occasion, this works out great for us. The interior is awesome and the technology of things like the virtual instrument panel and vent-integrated HVAC controls is brilliant.

I liked the soundaktor for the first year, then I opened the exhaust valves 100% of the time and turned the fake sound down. Now, it rattles so it might be time to totally disable it.

Drove a 2016 GTI today (friend's car) and was impressed. Very nimble car and the 2.0L is surprisingly powerful. I'd still prefer my B8 S4 but in terms of value the VW has it beat.

I've had 1 mk7 GTI and 2 mk7 golf R, as well as a couple mk5 gti/r32...and all were 10x the car that my daughters 13 miniS is. I'm talking from a quality of materials, solidness, overall quality level, not performance. The mini feels cheap and rough by comparison. It only has about 20k miles on it too....
