Default Coupe vs. Cabriolet

I live in Southern California (San Diego). I currently own a White 2013 911 Carrera S Coupe with 10,000 miles on it. I am trading it in on a GT Silver Metallic 2015 911 Turbo S. I expect delivery in November.

I put a down payment on it, but I am still at the "ordering stage." I have it pretty loaded (as a coupe), but I have a friend who thinks I should go Cabriolet instead. At first I rejected the idea, but then I realized I was rejecting it for an unknown reason. (911's are supposed to be coupes - I don't know.) Anyway, I am now beyond that and thinking that maybe a Cabriolet is the way to go. I do live in California, after all.

Does anyone have an opinion, or warning, etc., concerning the idea of a Cabriolet? I have to admit it is sounding better as I think about it. Would I be giving anything up? Any down sides? Noise? Creaks? Anything?

Thanks in advance.

We have a great active thread right now about cabriolets in the 991 series. Read it. Great stuff. I'd post a link but can't right now with the mobile app. Sorry.

The title is "question for cab owners".

BTW, great choice on color and turbo s!!

Thanks! I'll check it out! And I think I agree on the color. My white Carrera S was great, but I love the GT Silver Metallic.

A cabriolet is not even a real car. With the top up they look nowhere near as nice as a coupe, while with the top down they drive nowhere near as nice as a coupe. For all this lack of performance comes a premium in price along with added extra weight and complexity, with all its attendant maintenance issues. But hey, some guys love 'em to death! Question is: are you one of those guys? If the answer is yes, forget what anyone else says and get the car you want.

Nothing like a top down drive in a 911

And I have had a few convertibles.

It is as quiet at higher speeds as my BMW hardtop convertible was. It is essentially a light weight hardtop design since it it made of magnesium panels with a cloth covering.

I could have sworn last week he said he's never tracked a 991. Regardless, I usually ignore his posts. Too long and hardly uses a paragraph. Too hard for my old eyes to read. Lol!!

I would say for the track the coupe is absolutely the way to go, you will feel that lack of stiffness and added weight. If you are more concerned about daily driving or weekend spirited fun top down all the way. Having just switched from coupe to cab I am in love if for nothing else the ability to drop the top for my commute home it makes life so much more bearable. Also the new Cab has the best integration, top up the car, mine is black on black, looks just like the coupe, top down even better. And you can take the top up or down while driving at 30 miles an hour.

Excuse me!!? ....Not a real car?? ....Nowhere near as nice as a coupe??
Curious what Chuck E. Cheese bases his negativity on?? Some urban myth?

I've had a few Cabs....

87 Carrera Cab,
97 993 Cab,
05 997 Cab....
then an 07 GT3,
and now I'm back in a Cab (991 TT) and very happy to be back!!

Yes it's a real car!!
And with the 991 Cab's new lines, it's every bit as nice (identical actually) as a coupe, and is the best cabriolet so far in the 911 lineage.

Is it worth the extra $$, only the OP can decide.

For once actually agree with most of the above. I never cared for convertibles. Too much noise doesn't look as good to me or handle is as well , less safe in accidental or against vandalism as well as requiring more maintenance. and more $

The bigger question is what is Chuck rolling in?????? Was checking IDs of the door?
