DIY: AWE Switchpath install (GTS)
#91
I wanted to bump this for anyone new who might have missed this and want to do the AWE install themselves. Also wanted to say thanks Larry for putting this together. Saved me a lot of time where I would of been looking around trying to figure out how to get everything apart.
Total install time for me and someone else was about 4 hours. Could of gone a little faster if we had female torx on hand. I missed that part in the instructions.
The exhaust is a little louder than I expected but it sounds great. With the valves closed it sounds stock. With the valves open, under 4K it's similar to stock just a little deeper and louder. Above 4K it's way louder than stock PSE. Sounds awesome but may be a little much for some.
Performance wise I don't notice anything good or bad (i.e. loss of low RPM torque) and didn't expect to.

Edit:
I guess a better question is: does AWE in normal mode drone more than PSE in sport mode?

Normal mode with AWE seems just slightly louder than normal mode PSE so I don't imagine you'll hear any drone on the freeway in normal mode. Someone who's spent more time freeway driving with AWE would be able to answer this better though.

In normal mode, I notice no drone at highway speeds. I and the wife recently spent 7 hours on the freeway in Normal mode and she never complained once. I do get some with the valves open, but rarely "cruise" with them open.

i get drone in 7th gear at highway speeds valves open. valves closed, no drone and much quieter/more comfortable. no sense in valves open on the freeway imho. cheers!

Valves closed : zero drone. Deeper and slightly louder (+10%) sound than stock.
Valves open : very light drone below 2000 rpm (7th gear). Above 5000 rpm a fantastic race sound twice louder than PSE

I was thinkin if you were having a hard time with the clamps during install because of lack of room, you might have subbed the pinch type clamp for those metal screw type (small size radiator style). If that was a problem for the install to move forward. After thinking bout it tho, screw type might not be too much of an option if you wanted to be oem compliant.

well looks like I am trading the GTS for a 718 Spyder - so its time to take the AWE off!

honestly - I was getting "bored" with the GTS - its a great car, but I had to install a DSCSport to get the handling I wanted, and a Cobb engine and PDK tune to get the performance and
shifting I wanted ... not too mention the exhaust... but I just find that the PDK, despite it being the best of its kind, it detaches me from the driving experience, even when I manually shift it...
I really enjoy the "open top" experience, but I want it in a more "pure" sports car experience than the GTS offers ... I think/hope that the Spyder will offer that, or will at least be an improvement!
watch this space ....
anyone want a used AWE Swtichpath w/diamond blk tips, a DSCSport, v2, Cobb Accessport, or a set of Forgeline (centerlock) GA1R wheels lmk...
