Great DIY by the way
If i understand your question, i can confirm the exhaust does merge at the intersection of the "X". I looked in there when I installed mine and there is a hole between the two sides for each bank.

Cool. That's what I was wondering. I hear that's a good thing! See some of these guys making similar pipes don't have the vacuum valves that open/close. Not good.

If you're thinking about an Xpipe, just stop thinking and do it! The sound is x2 better and louder even in the GTS (especially with BMC filters).
People give me thumbs up here in Switzerland where usually they hate noise
I had a Mercedes driver follow me in Germany until a gas station to thank me for such a great sounding exhaust! No kidding

Hi Larry, wonderful job and explanations. I have the same issue with the driver side outside tip. It's a pain...I tried WD40 but no way to get it done. Anybody who's got a better solution please chime in. Thanks

interesting, that's a coincidence ...

here's what I did, firstly I tried all combinations of tips and shims to find the
combination that seemed to fit best, I also bought some coarse sandpaper
and tried to smooth down the exterior of the pipe somewhat ... also at the
suggestion of Tood@AWE I tried (with little success) to pry open the "tabs"
on the tip itself ...

all of this "sort of" worked but the "coup de grace" was the careful application
of the plastic mallet

I'm not really familiar with other styles of hose clamp so I can't really compare
I was thinkin if you were having a hard time with the clamps during install because of lack of room, you might have subbed the pinch type clamp for those metal screw type (small size radiator style). If that was a problem for the install to move forward. After thinking bout it tho, screw type might not be too much of an option if you wanted to be oem compliant.

@Larry, I need to hear this thing first hand some time. I bet I could sell my PSE to heavily fund the swap!

I wanted to bump this for anyone new who might have missed this and want to do the AWE install themselves. Also wanted to say thanks Larry for putting this together. Saved me a lot of time where I would of been looking around trying to figure out how to get everything apart.

Total install time for me and someone else was about 4 hours. Could of gone a little faster if we had female torx on hand. I missed that part in the instructions.

The exhaust is a little louder than I expected but it sounds great. With the valves closed it sounds stock. With the valves open, under 4K it's similar to stock just a little deeper and louder. Above 4K it's way louder than stock PSE. Sounds awesome but may be a little much for some.

Performance wise I don't notice anything good or bad (i.e. loss of low RPM torque) and didn't expect to.
