Went on a test drive in a 2017 991.2 S and...

My experience was that I found no lag at any speed that I would care about. I drove a PDK S with PSE. Anytime I stepped down it grabbed the optimal gear and picked up speed faster than my C2S. Sort of half way closer to a 2016 Turbo that I drove- but more entertaining sounding. I would not care if it was a manual and I lugged it, other than to satisfy my curiousity.

as for the sound, i'm wondering; will the "new" cars sound better once the packing in the mufflers has burned in a bit? or will the sound be constant from day one on out?
my 24mo lease will work perfectly for the new 991.2....i can definitely see myself getting one (or a used na GTS).

Gonna chime in this thread. I had too test drove the new 991 S with PCCB & PSE in graphite blue yesterday. Porsche did most thing right except the farting PSE, transformers inspired steering wheel, and the retro 1970's ***** at the center console. What's up with those? It's Porsche not Honda.
Did I say the PSE is a major letdown? But nothing can't be fixed with aftermarket.
The engine was the most noticeable improvement at low end, lots of torque and no lag. The new PCCB also had bigger rotor and brakes very well. Ride was a bit stiffer in sport or sport+. It was a bit too soft in normal mode. There was slightly more engine noise in the cabin, but nothing a big concern since it's an engine with turbo.
Is it reliable? Who knows? Generally I would avoid getting anything with engine made in the first year. But, the engine is smaller and more efficient, so "maybe" it's less prone to errors. I would wait for 2018 version (reserve one in late 2017). Or if you are in market now, by all means go for it!

I'm wondering what everyone who has test driven the car and claimed a noticeable lag would say if they were not told beforehand the engine was turbo-charged.

Test drove a 991.2 base with base exhaust and loved the handling but not the zero exhaust note.
It's a nice car but I think that the PSE should now be given away as standard equipment. Same story with the active sound of the new M3. I actually called BMW and requested a free upgrade and was turned away. Thanks for making it easier to buy the GTS! :thumb:
Get the car if you like it and drive it like you stole it.

I wonder that as well, that's why I want to drive it for myself. The only thing I'm basing my fear on is my experience with other FI cars, including some very recent designs. If Porsche has solved the throttle response issue that typically afflicts FI, that would be awesome, but I'm going to have to drive it myself.

I have just spent two days at the Porsche Driving School in Leipzig in my GT3 surrounded by 991.2 Carrera S.
When they are fanging it around the track, they sound pretty good and because you never really get below 2000rpm, there is absolutely no discernible turbo lag.
And, gee willikers, do they haul **** out of a corner. They certainly gave my GT3 a run for its money.
