Price advice: CPO 2013 C2S Cab w/repainted fenders+bumper
Currently negotiating on this car:

The dealer has come down to $81.5k but won't go lower than that (rejected my offer of $80,500). The car was a lease turn in, with the lease originated and car serviced by the now selling dealer. Black is my top color choice and this has substantially all of the options I want. However, since I am based in SF I've been trying to arrange a PPI, but with much difficulty so far. In the meantime, I pressed the dealer on the things I'd expect a PPI for a CPO car to focus on, and got this response:
"We did do some minor CPO required body work: repainted 2 fenders due to chipping that always occur on those cars and also painted the bumper due to bottom corner scratch."
How big of a deal is this? Is this a standard course of action as part of CPO, or is it significant enough to walk from if they don't come down from $81.5k?

Even for a cab, or are you thinking for a coupe? I was looking at MMR data today and there was a similar miles but lower MSRP car that sold through auction a couple weeks ago at $75.5k. If you were to factor in transpo+recon+CPO+dealer margin, you're probably looking at a similar retail price point.

-It is being sold at the retail level. They will try and make 10%-15% easy on each of their used car sales. Having said that, the price doesn't seem out of the question.
-It's in So Cal
-It's not overly optioned, having the msrp will help in determining it's worth. I think your bid is closer to right than wrong.
-They "won't go lower than $81,500." At this point it's up to you whether or not to pay their asking price. They may offer the car at a lower price in the future, again, there's no guarantee that they do or that someone comes along and buys it at their offered price.
Best success with the hunt!

given the aforementioned it's not an unfair price. 59% residual on a 36mo lease (back of envelope) would suggest a $75k buyout (plus tax) from the leasing company. the dealer has to make some money too, why they're in the business they're in. really boils down to how much you want the car or how patient you want to be.

Paint on these cars is thin, if you don't xpel right away you will likely have some chips and scratches. A repaint woildn't bother me as long as the body panels are original to the car. Scratches and chips happen if you drive your car. To get the car perfect a respray may be in order and the best way to deliver those results. As long as long as it matches and it was done right. It shouldn't be an issue. looking at the market, the price does seem on the higher side bur it is CPOd so it's not out of the ballpark

In my experience there's usually at least $10k and sometimes closer to $20k in dealer profit in these cars unless they've been sitting forever and already marked way down. I don't care about the dealer making a profit, I just want the best deal, so if I was looking at that car I'd put its value at $73-74k. If they want to hold out for more, good for them. If I wanted the car badly enough, I'd pay more....how bad do you want the car? There's plenty of 911's out there.

Why would a dealer sell a car retail for the same price he can get at auction. They have paid for the CPO and they deserve a reasonable margin. 81K for this car with CPO is not a bad deal. Why would would you walk away for $1,500.00 for a car that you obviously like.

In all my years buying cars I've never paid over trade-in value on any of them. Plenty of deals out there, these aren't limited edition cars with people lining up around the block to buy them, they are still $70k+ used cars which are not the easiest thing to sell. I see the same cars sitting for months on cars.com and Autotrader. One CPO '14 S coupe I looked at had with $127k sticker/17k miles had an original price of $97k and was down to $79.5k last I checked, still sitting for months at that price. Dad's '14 Panamera S with $116k sticker/24k miles was purchased for $62k with CPO, original dealer price was $79k without CPO. They have plenty of room, guaranteed.
