I think you are correct. And that makes sense.

Yes it checks out (had a look at two different sources) - one number is just for the piston and the other number is for the piston, rings and circlips - so add turbos tune and go

Sorry for my laziness, but how does Cobb tune compare to the GIAC tune? I realize Cobb has the Accessport (I had one before for a previous Mini Cooper).

Is it going cost about the same as the GIAC?

Well the COBB tune hasn't actually been released yet, so an actual layover dyno comparison isn't possible. Its supposed to cost around the same and considering the functionality and features you get on the access port COBB's value for money is far superior IMO.

I think by the enthusiasm in this thread and GIAC's nearly complete lack of engagement in the community should suggest which one most people are going with, myself included.

People like COBB better because they believe they can return the car back to stock without losing their warranties. (Not true BTW) if something mayor happens Porsche will know.

I don't agree with this. Anyone who's tuning should know once they remove the ECU from the car and unlock it, it can never be returned to "stock". The car can be reflashed to the OEM tune and have all codes removed, but the fact that the ECU has been unlocked can be determined should there be a catastrophic failure at some point and warranty gets called into question. With the 9A2 remaining in the 992 chassis, putting software on our cars to take them to a higher level of tune with supplementary mods, (filter, high flow cats, etc.) is IMO, a very small and calculated risk.

While we haven't yet seen the exact tunes overlaid yet between COBB and its competitors, COBB has not rushed the tunes to market and taken the time to comprehensively develop a release for the 991.2 platform. The tunes have been given sufficient time during beta testing to work out potential issues. Theres more information provided in this thread in the past week then GIAC has provided since they released their tunes in mid 2017.

What's stopping one from playing dumb and claiming one bought the car that way if Porsche wants to give one some problems?

It seems that if they could determine it was tampered with, there should be a way to track when.

If not, perhaps the dealer may be sympathetic if you bought it preowned, but in general, I don't think that would fly. I bought mine new, so I definitely couldn't try that, but it doesn't seem like it would be too hard for them to figure it out if there was some kind of litigation started.

On my second Cobb tune, 2 different cars. I have the tune and the PDK Upgrade installed at the Sport mode Stage 2 on my 991.1 TTS.
Car runs flawlessly, I don't feel I am straining the car at all. More power earlier and quick PDK shifts. Car behaves much better if you need to drive in auto. Cobb and Sam @ByDesign walked me through the whole initial install.
I really feel Cobb takes the time to do it right and is very responsive on customer service. These cars are built to take a little more hp and tq without any negative issues.

Can you post the dyno charts please - they are not in your release notes as promised (see above).

Bumping this thread to know if some of you Rennlisters have run this tune on your track car and stock cooling. Have you noticed a significant increase in ambient temps when driving on track?
