That's really a question only you can answer for yourself.

I wonder if the impact of COVID will have a similar outcome on the long term 992 prices to that of the prices on 997.2s (due to the recession in that case). I'm sure the 997 forum has discussed this.

Just going by looks alone, I'd say no... the 992 will be around for quite some time, whereas IMO, the 991 is the best looking 911 ever made after the 964, so YMMV. You are I believe getting a very similar, if not the same engine and reworked turbos, just with more oomph and lower 0-60. I also dislike the 992's interior, but that's just me. I would for sure go for the 991.2 C4S.
I'm sure many magazines/online places have done a 991.2 vs 992.1 comparo so far, might want to search for that here and online.

I recently went through the same thought process and agree with this post. I prefer a majority of the exterior fo the 991.2 to the new 992. Also, I hate the 992 shift **** (minor detail, but true) and it seems you don't get as much bang for your buck with the new interior (I may be in the minority of those that like Alcantra for my roof liner). However, if you want upgraded electronics, the 992 wins easily in that category. However, I don't particularly like the layout of the vents underneath the new monitor or the four buttons that have issues depending on configuration. When all was said and done, I chose the 991.2 as it save me a LOT of money, I preferred the look overall, and I can tune it to be just as powerful as the new 992 when all is said and done should I believe that is necessary.

The 992 forum has owners that had 991’s. You might check there if you want another perspective. I have a 991.2 and waiting on my 992. For me, it took taking a test drive of the 992 to help me make that decision. You should consider taking opinions from those that have driven it and perhaps you should drive both cars.
