Embedded in an article today on the new Mission-E on Autocars website is the intriguing statement:
Meanwhile, officials have confirmed to Autocar that the upcoming facelifted 911 GTS will retain its existing naturally aspirated 3.8-litre flat six engine, rather than adopting a powered-up version of the company’s new twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre flat six.
My cleaning lady tells me it is a turbo engine to be announced in October so could be a typo (i.e. GT3). So impossible to know what to believe until the car appears.

I just read this. The way it's been reported I believe it. Very interesting indeed and has a few implications. They can use it to test the market. How much do Porsche buyers really value the NA engine? Is it just a few Rennlisters? Will everyone else buy the S because it's faster?
The groundwork for this was done when they said they would have some cars that were for driving pleasure rather than outright speed. We thought they just meant manual gearboxes but now this.
Keeping the NA 6 alive also means far more likely to be a new GT4, Boxster Spyder and perhaps even NA GT3s for longer!
EVERYONE BUY A GTS!!!

I'm in. I will contribute to that cause.

Was done on the Pano yes? GTS was an NA V8 for a year or three? (And apparently not a success as it is now an FI 6... (IIRC.))

991 GTS has been my ultimate goal and I love the sound of my 16 C2. So while it would be awesome if the GTS stays NA the new 991.2 has some other features that I really like, specifically rear steer and front axle lift.
Don't think I could sleep if I knew I could flip my 16 for a 17 or 18 GTS with NA and rear steer and front axle lift. Ohhhhhhhh man.

Bending over to the EPA, CARB, and other emissions regulators (off boost/normal settings) while being faster than predecessors to appeal to customers (on boost/sportiest settings). 9A2 engines off boost + short shifting PDK in the normal driving mode passes the current (flawed) emissions/gas mileage test with flying colors. Most people will buy the Carrera and Carrera S models, so that increases fleet MPG and decreases fleet CO2 emissions.

revisit this when the .2 powerkit becomes available and see if it makes any sense...
