Chris harris comments 991.2
I dunno, her voice really grated on me. Not her accent, her actual voice. You guys can have her. Plus, I don't want my chicks to be better drivers than me.
Anyway, more to the point, I pushed ahead my planned October 2015 GTS purchase to February 2015 specifically because I knew about the coming turbo changeover but dates weren't certain and since I wanted to order, I didn't want to get shut out of ordering a NA Carrera. For various reasons that we all know, I didn't want a GT3 this time. And I was in a Turbo at the time and specifically didn't want that again. I wanted the power-delivery characteristics of the NA motor. Wanted to have to work for it. Wanted to have to keep the gears where they needed to be rather than just torqueing my way out of bad gear selection.
I daresay the .2 is going to be a better car in every way than the .1 (well, excluding that horrible vertical grill). For me, though, being "worse" in the sense of making me work harder for my performance, is exactly what I wanted. I'm very happy I accelerated the purchase.
And I think I'll feel that way indefinitely. I was too young to be buying new Porsches in 1989, but I would have chosen an 89 G50 Carrera 3.2 over an 89 964 at the time, and I don't think there's been a single day since 1989 when I wouldn't have been glad with that choice. Even though the 964 is a demonstrably better car.
But I'd NEVER argue that another person who had chosen the 964 had made a bad choice, or even a worse choice than me. I'm just the oddball in that equation.

I still maintain it not just the noises - it's the loss of the sharper edges that define the 911 in all of the car reviews/tests and in my personal driving experience. I am sure it's a great car for a lot of people, extra torque can be very fun...it's just a different driving experience.
The 911 has always been about the unique driving experience and sharp edges that put it on the limits of a daily/driver or street car. Take away some of that magic and the car really loses a lot of it's value prop relative to BMWs, Audis, Jaguars. It's the feel of a "race car for the street" rather than what BMW has always been "a street car you can take to occasional track events (prepared to replace the brakes, get lost in the rubbery gearbox etc)
I am sure they will continue to refine the sound/sharpness of the car over the next few years and then for the 992! Porsche listens to this feedback.
(Heck even BMW secretly change their OEM exhaust for 2016 M4 based on terrible reception in the press and from owners. For those of you wanting more turbo noise be careful what you ask for, neither Porsches nor BMWs should sound like a Nissan GTR IMO)
Very happy for my recent acquisition of a MT C2S!

Apparently Harris and Sabine Schmitz are joining Evens on the new BBC 'Top Gear'. I don't know what to think of it at the moment.

I would have loved to watch her put on her jeans. In a couple of scenes she could almost get her fingers in her pants pockets, but it was a tight fit.
I have no idea about the percentages, but I would expect that the sports car enthusiasts found on this forum represent a very small percentage of 991 buyers. Most 991 buyers are middle age professionals who will never track their cars and probably never visit a Porsche forum. I believe that for them the 991.2 will be most welcome, since it will give them the extra performance at the lower rpm range where they spend the vast majority of their time.

I think your right fast1, the majority of Porsche owners would never tack their car and only care about the HP rating and the P name. The 991.2 will be welcome with open arms by most people, now they all can say that they have a turbo 911.....

I recently read (don't remember where) that less than 2% of 911 owners track their cars, including GT3's. If this is true, then the .2 will be a huge hit for these reasons:
- Peak low end torque at 1,750 RPM.
- Standard PASM
- Car Play
- Wider target audience
Its not my idea of a 911, but I suspect I will be in a minority.

As with pretty much EVERY review of this car, there's always the BUT ......
Definitely not a standing ovation anywhere for the 991.2
"The whole point of turbo charging these cars in the first place was to make them cleaner and greener than before"
Porsche wants more mainstream appeal for the 911 going forward, in the process sacrifices will be made. None with the niche enthusiast in mind.
