Default Driving gloves yes or no

Just want to know who wears driving gloves in their Porsche and the reason why. I don't wear them but I keep them on hand for removing road kill or gassing up the car. But they are ugly tan farm gloves.

I don't wear gloves driving street cars (unless it's winter and cold).
I keep a pair of work gloves in each car for putting in fuel and anything else that might require gloves. They are mechanics gloves.

For track I always wear nomex gloves for several reasons:
- better grip when my hands get moist in warm weather
- sun protection
- warmth in cool weather
- if there ever was a fire I could still use my hands

No driving gloves. I always wear disposable rubber gloves when working and cleaning car.

OT- just got a new DD SUV with a heated steering wheel. Holy moly is that nice, and it's not even cold out yet.

Exactly and I don't diss on any that say they wear them. We all have some need. Thanks for the info. Great points!

Yes, the heated steering wheels rock. I do actually have a few of the disposable gloves for gassing up too. I always seem to luck out and get a leaky nozzle of hose. lol

Hah. Once you feel the warmers on your hands, you will never go without...

I wear them, but only on my older 911 (1967) which has a well worn leather wheel. The gloves absorb the moisture from my sweaty hands in warm weather and provide a nice, positive grip. In winter, they just keep me warm while driving an air cooled car with questionable heat. In the 991 GTS I went with the alcantara sport wheel which provides grip that is far superior to any driving glove.

The only time that I have worn gloves was while in Germany driving at high speed on the Autobahn. That was a solution to a problem of my hands getting very sweaty. I also saw a lot of people driving with gloves in Germany. Now in the states my hands don't sweat. I wonder why?

Funny you mention that. During my whole time on the autobahn, my hands were a sweaty mess. I wasn't sure if it was because I was squeezing the **** out of the steering wheel, or if it was just good ole fashioned adrenaline. It was definitely the latter. Hands were relaxed in their proper position.

Driving Gloves are a throwback to an era when steering wheels were made of wood, cars had no power steering, and were difficult to turn the wheel. You need the grip that a glove would give you to crank the wheel. In a modern car the only glove needed is Nomex if you are racing.
