Default Ever regretted selling a car? Seems very common

Or miss a car you once had? What a special attachment we have to our cars many times.

Talking to and meeting many car and Porsche enthusiasts, one common thing I hear over and over is a story about regretting selling a car at some point.

Recently thinking about the "next 911" for me. Maybe a GT3, but have also started appreciating the classics. I think a 930 911 has to happen at some point in my life.

That being said, the thought of ever selling my first 911, my 991S is very unsettling.

I guess that quote, "always add, do not subtract" has some meaning with cars. Obviously not always financially possible I know.

I better start working harder. Not a cheap hobby. Adding sounds like a good option

Any stories about the car you wish you still had or miss? Fond memories? Pictures?

A great subject...how often have I heard, "If I just had a bigger garage..."?

For me, the 1988 Black Carrera that I sold (to buy my 2006 997) is the one I wish I had kept. I sold it to a neighbor, who never drove it (heartbreaking!). He eventually sold it to a guy in Italy. If I'd had a place to put it, I would have bought it back. You just can't keep them all.

My 2.2 911S. Kills me that I don't have this car today. It was significant and meaningful in many, many ways more than just being a car. I guess I thought they'd always just be thought of as a used car and not get priced into the stratosphere / out of practical reach.

I regret that I didn't buy my buddy's 'Conda Green 2.2S that Seinfeld bought and I think is now in the Ingram collection.

BUT, as much as my life has changed over the last 15 years, either car would likely have become a casualty of divorce or the GFC. And if not either of those, certainly a PITA to move around and store.

I thought I was going to be really upset that I sold my 997 Targa - I absolutely, in every sense of the word, loved that car. But the truth is that selling it cleared the way for the 991 GTS. And I couldn't be happier with the current combination of 911's that I'm fortunate to have.

So, yes, I regret selling the 1970 S. But having said that, I also realize that you have to let go of things to make way for better things. At some point, 'and' rather than 'or' becomes a burden. At least in my case.

Regrets on more than a few but.....

Alex Zanardi NSX purchased new....#17 of 50 lightweight factory coupes in
manufactured in 1999.

All in "New Formula Red" color, BBS forged wheels, special suspension,
6 speed manuals, lightweight rear divider glass and other stuff.

One other of note: 1969 Yenko Chevelle. Purchased new from a Chevrolet
dealer about $3800 if I recall.

For me it was a 1984 911 Carrera coupe, white and can can red with spoilers. Sold in 1996 I understand it is somewhere on the North Shore of Chicago. The one I let get away - 1972 911T with 26K miles for $6500. I imagine it is worth a little bit more now. Mark

Not a regret, but fond memories. My first real nice car. 2000 Lexus IS300. Not actual pic, but same car.

Funny story, had it for like 6 years. Sold it in mint condition. Like 5+ years later, parked in a parking ramp, and look over and see my old car! I was like whoa! Needless to say, was not the same beauty I remember. Had been abused. Very sad.

No Pics in digital form (got this off the net-- but that's definitely the same roll bar and the aluminum gas cap cover I added) but for me it is a 1999 10th Anniversary Miata..s Great little car. Even greater after I added an FM Turbo kit, cat-back exhaust, heavy duty clutch, and other goodies-- put out 204rwhp-- a true sleeper--

Believe it or not, the 2 cars that I miss are my 2003 BMW 540i 6-sp with M package, and my 2009 911 Turbo cab. I traded that in for the Speedster because my focus changed. I wasn't driving it as much, and my plan was to simplify the number of cars in the household. Obviously, that didn't happen.

The speedster changed my perspective again. The 2 current Porsches that I own can't match the Turbos acceleration, and AWD pull. However, the newer P cars are more exciting. Super fast acceleration isn't everything... I'm still trying to convince myself of that last statement.

I only regret selling the cars I owned that are big money today....who knew?

* 1957 Corvette 283 Dual Quad 4-speed (sold for $ 6,500)
* 1963 Corvette Split Window Couple 327 5-Speed (sold for $ 4,200)
* 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner 440 ci (sold for $ 3,200)
* 1970 Porsche 911E (Traded in for $ 2,100)
* 1996 Porsche C4S (sold for $ 50,000)

Better yet, what I really miss is the cars I didn't buy, but came close to getting than got cold feet on the deal:

* 1965 Ferrari GT330 for $ 9,000
* 1957 Mercedes 300SL Gullwing for $ 38,000 from the original owner
* 1957 Porsche Speedster for $ 44,000
* 1988 BMW M3 for $ 7,000

...the ones that got away....

Every single Porsche I've sold, I regret selling.

1998 Boxster (Guards Red)
2000 Boxster (Speed Yellow)
2003 996 (Guards Red)
2008 Boxster s (Guards Red)
2010 997.2 (Guards Red)

The last one was recent, and was my trade into the Targa. And I miss it a lot.

More garage.

Nope. Couple I wished I'd bought when I had the chance. One I wished hadn't been broadsided.

Sometimes I wish I still had the all-kinds-of-rust-colored '73 Impala with a slightly-warmed 302 from a Camero that I drove in high school. In that car I would be THE MASTER of Boston traffic Mad Max style.
