991 Carrera 4S needs replacement tires. Not sure about the best option
I have a 2013 Carrera 4S, and I need a new set of replacement tires. I've read around online that the Michelin PSS and PS2 are the best options, but I'm not sure the best way to proceed.
The problem is with the rear tires. The stock tires currently installed are 305-30-20 Pirelli's. The Michelins in that size are sold out and backordered everywhere, and nobody knows how long it will take for them to come in. According to one tire dealer, 295-30-20 is an "alternate size" for my rears, and the Michelins are indeed in stock at that size.
Should I get the Michelins with the smaller width, or should I buy a different brand at the 305-30-20 size? It looks like my only viable option at that size is Pirellis.

Consider the Michelin Pilot Super Sport.
They last substantially longer than the other brands/models - I was very happy with them on my 997.
They even have a treadwear warranty.

Oops, I glossed over that you already considered them ("PSS") and yes, the rears do appear to be back ordered. I hope that resolves soon, as I really want to put PSS on my Targa as soon as I burn through the dealer-supplied tires.

Pilot sport cup 2s. Best street tire I've ever had.

Yeah, I guess the issue is that when I go on a site like tirerack, or look at the tires currently installed on my car, they say the size is 305-30-20. However, according to a tire shop I called, 295-30-20 size should be compatible (sizemytires.com also says this), and those are in stock. So the question is: Do I just wait for the 305-30-20 PSS to come in stock (which could be months from now), buy a different brand at that size, or should I just get the 295-30-20 Michelins?

I'm sort of in the same predicament except I only need rears right now.
I only got 9,000 miles out of the rear OEM Pirelli 305s and if I (I want to) switch to the Michelin PSS I will probably write off the front Pirellis to have a matched set.
I might consider the Bridgestone Potenza if the MPSS are not available soon.

There's a lot of tread depth on the 2s. I've even done a couple of track days in the rain. No issues whatsoever, they evacuate water as well as PSS. My only concern would be cold weather but I live in Houston where that is rarely an issue.

I got just under 13,000 miles on my rears before needing new rear 305's. Spoke with Pirelli rep and he says that the Porsche specification is for about 11,000 miles (17,500km) for the rear tires.

I am putting 4 PSS on my 2014 991 this Friday. The dealer was able to get 4 tires within just a few days (Sunset in Portland). Replacing the Pirellis after just shy of 11,000 miles with the rears shot.
