I looked at both. Wanted the rear seats to take my kids for memorable rides. Difference in price was a consideration too. But as noted, at this time, the GT cars are doing much much better in holding value. That's GT as in above GTS ..

The "street" 991's take a BEATING in depreciation.
Agreed, you don't realize how nice the creature comforts are until you sit in a GT3 for a while. Things like vented 18 way seats with AC (especially now in the summer), burmeister sound, etc are missed in the GT3. But the GT3 experience, well it just has to be experienced.

What prompted the switch and how do they compare for day to day use?

Congrats on the GT3, and good luck unloading the C4S. The GT3's color is amazing.

Great question. I got the call for the GT3 and I just couldn't say no. They are really different cars. The comfort and power that the 4S has is hard to match. Features like the 18 way vented seats and the Burmeister and the MT are missed in the GT3. The 4S sounds much better with the AWE exhaust. I just ordered an exhaust for the GT3 but I don't think it will be as good as the 4S. I drove the 4S 90+% of the time as a DD (still do). The GT3 can be driven daily but I probably won't. It's simply not as comfortable as the 4S. I'll probably end up getting a 4x4 for DD. Having said all of this, the GT3 is simply amazing. The power and feel is incredible but it does not replace the 4S in many ways.

Thanks. I'll likely list the 4S soon but I already have a friend and two other contacts that are interested. If I sell the 4S it will be at a premium, the buyer will have to understand they are getting as close to a perfect condition 4S as it gets with many options that most cars don't have. The Xpel was put on when the car was brand new.

The ones listed at that level are selling, but the ones listed higher are sitting on the lots. I know the ones listed at the 68-70% level can be bought for a bit less. I would expect the private sale price would be lower since the warranty remaining is more limited. Of course, trade prices would be significantly less.
I'm in the shopping for the exact same car and would absolutely prefer a CPO car. I've never owned a Porsche.. and while I have heard great things about them.. I simply cannot stomach a large repair bill. It also helps thats Porsche has what is probably the best CPO plan of any car maker. Unless a private sale is significantly cheaper, there's no way it should sell quicker than a 70% MSRP CPO car. Here's a write up about how great Porsche CPO is: http://carbuying.jalopnik.com/these-...ams-1691935821

"Porsche's certified pre-owned program is easily the best in the industry...Like many luxury-car certified pre-owned programs, it offers six years or 100,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper coverage for any vehicle that's still under factory warranty. But if a used car's factory warranty is expired, Porsche will also offer an additional two years or 50,000 miles of coverage — something no other automaker does. They also offer a long list of perks that make a CPO vehicle very compelling."

Preachin to the choir. I'm a past owner anxious to get back in.

I guess the best thing next to a CPO car would be a 7yr/100K warranty.

Just because a car is at a dealer listed for $105 (or whatever) doesn't mean that it will sell at that price. Or any price.

Suprising that you priced it at $115k given the input here? Seems like $95k is more in line with competition. Don't blame you for trying for a home run at first but if you price it at $95k let me know.

That 7/100 warranty is transferable correct?
I have the same extended coverage thru PCNA and sure hope it makes a difference when I get rid of the car.

Best of luck.

Given the reactions to the new 991.2, I don't think I'd sell this car unless I actually needed the funds elsewhere. Put it under a cover and forget about it for 20 years, and you won't lose a dime on it.

Hahahaha! That's a realistic response for most people.

When dealers purchase cars, this is the information they typically use to assess a car's value. I've learned a long time ago that options, particularly after market options add virtually nothing to a car's value. I can recall at least a couple of instances of irate customers learning this lesson from the school of hard knocks.

I'll likely list the 4S soon but I already have a friend and two other contacts that are interested. If I sell the 4S it will be at a premium, the buyer will have to understand they are getting as close to a perfect condition 4S as it gets with many options that most cars don't have. Your best chance of getting a premium for your car is by selling it to a friend who appreciates the care you've given to your car. The challenge you have is to find a buyer who values the options as you did, and is willing to pay a premium for them. The market for $100K+ used cars is extraordinarily small. People who spend that kind of money require a car that is configured exactly to their wants.

I've sold four 911s in private sales over the last 30 years, but my most expensive sale was $60K for my 993. Even with the tremendous demand for the last air cooled Porsche, it took me nearly four months to sell my car. I think most people feel more comfortable paying a premium for a used car on a dealer's lot.
