Default Rumor has it...

I was at Porsche of Tysons this morning, my selling dealer - talking with one of the long-time salesmen there in the parking lot, before they got busy. He said to me "If you ever wanted a three-pedal 911, get it soon - Porsche is doing away entirely with manual transmissions. These will be collector items in the future". I said "Already have one!"

Then he also said "The rear-engine is going away too, new ones will all be mid-engined".

If true, then....wow - end of an era. 991 manual trans cars with the engine in the back will be like 993's are today (in 20 years).

Just a conversation in the parking lot, I have not been searching to substantiate it.

I do not think they will convert the 911 into a boxer plus.

2nd that.

Manual transmission? Yes, I would agree. And that's why I chose the manual over PDK before they are rare like dinosaur.

The idiot is probably talking about the future Corvette. He's probably a little bit hung over too and confused his car brands.

Unfortunately most of the sales guys have less knowledge than the enthusiasts by far.

I think he is mistaken in calling the configuration mid-engine but there is some truth to what he is claiming in the sense of weight distribution. The 991 is the most "mid-engined" iteration of the 911 as the weight has been shifted over the rear axle in a more forward position by several cm. maybe this is what the SA was alluding to. http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/9...-vs-997-a.html.
If you look at the second post after OP it is interesting to note the C4 cars are more "mid-engined" or rather weight distributed. Perhaps this accounts for the increased "fun" factor some C2 enthusiasts claim over the AWD version.

Collie, haven't you been reading all the latest news about Porsche's newly found erection over manuals again??

Or maybe he's confused over naturally aspirated versus manual?

Mid engine versus turbo engines?

Sounds farfetched, however, all 911's (worldwide) will soon have the Auto stop-start function enabled by default.
So far the US market has been exempt from this miserable mandate.
