Default 7MT vs. PDK. resale value?

I am in the market to buy a 991s and I am on the fence between the two. Are there any opinions as to which one has the better resale or does it make a difference? It seems like the large majority of cars out there are PDK. does that mean a 7mt will be difficult to sell?

PDK is definitely more popular. However if someone wants a manual, then they're not interested in PDK's. If you want to play percentages, then PDK wins. Get what YOU want, though. You didn't marry your wife based on how her next husband might want her....

I think the secondary market for PDK is larger, but I think for those looking for a 7MT, they will be willing to pay a higher price as the available pool of cars is smaller.

Just my humble opinion. FWIW

Get what you want. They are both desirable. Seems lately, the manuals are pretty popular. Especially in the GTS.

I had the same question/concern when I ordered my CS. Even though I intend to keep it until I'm in the ground, if catastrophe hit and I had to sell it, I was worried if anyone wanted a manual anymore. My dealer indicated that a manual car, particularly with the options I put on it, would sell no problem. He says they don't floor many manuals, but they have no trouble selling them.

seems like the manual are more sought after on the 50th anniversary edition, or maybe because they did not make too many and once one comes for sale it sells very quickly.

Another observation on the GTS is that it is the most NA HP in a 911 with a manual transmission. Most who wanted a 3rd pedal in the GT3 are buying the GTS.

See the other PDK vs. 7MT post. Lots of debate with no right/wrong answer.

Pages upon pages of cat fighting.

That is good advise, however I think if I got a good offer I would let her go!

Accurate and amusing advice.

To answer the OP's question though: I will propose that since MT is more rare and PDK costs an additional $4k, as a question of original resale, the MT will retain a higher percentage of original cost than a comparable PDK car. This is reinforced by the residual values as published by Porsche Financial.

I think you are correct on this. I broke with tradition from my previous 7 911's when I got my 991 GTS with PDK. I just wanted a change, but never really expected that my car would be worth $4,000 more on resale then a manual GTS. But as others have said, I think it just depends on what the used car buyer is looking for. Manuals will be rarer, but I think a buyer looking for a manual is going to become rarer also. This has nothing to do with PDK vs manual debate, so don't think I am trying to start that again. It just seems that fewer and fewer people want a manual transmission, and even fewer know how to drive one.

A few years down the road when the warranty is up. I would think the PDK becomes a liability. Anybody know what the rebuild cost is over a clutch job?

Right now it's 14K. There's nobody rebuilding PDKs,only replacing with new units.
