Actually, we can all disregard this- I just received an email back saying the car is no longer available. Although they thought I might be interested in a 2016 991 Turbo for $166k

27 - Instrument Dials in Carmine Red
The red instrument dials are such an odd choice to me. When I was looking for my cpo 991, I found a lot of cars that were pretty good and then they'd have yellow or red instrument dials. Is that like a Porschephile thing that I've missed or is it a low priced option so people are like, "Well, what the hell. Why not."

Originally listed at $100k, then $103k, and now at $105k. Odd that the price is going up... Any idea why that could be?
I saw a 2013 911 4S Cab (loaded) go from 100k to 95 to 90 and then back up to 95 In the space of a few weeks. Doesn't seem to be unusual. Price generally seems to drop the longer they hold it for obvious reasons. They need to move it to reduce carrying costs.

Any input on why this happening or their reputation as a dealer? Living in FL I was trying to avoid a northern car, but I assume 2k miles on an almost new car is unlikely to be covered in corrosive material...?
I don't know much about them but when I asked for a lease price on a new car they gave some number that didn't make sense. After I said something they said maybe they made a mistake and they came back with something much better but still high.

And then there is this: red interior with yellow dials??? That poor car.

Ditto on the Thank You! I'm no longer looking for a car but this is still my first stop on Rennlist and I guarantee that I'm not alone. In addition to the cool cars, there are the occasional, unexpected bits of non-pricing information in the thread.

I wonder what we'll see happen to 991.1 prices/depreciation this time next year vs. 2013->2014 and 2014->2015. (Please don't highjack STGs thread on this subject - I was just "thinking out loud".)

Maybe the owner had a bunch of McDonalds franchises?
Iowa State Alum?
Red/Green color blindness?
Macular degeneration?
Bad taste.

Default franchise vs independent

Exactly. Particularly with hi-end independent dealers. Why would a dealer's asking price go up $7k a week later? Think shelf-space. Many independents need sizzle in the showroom and will hold gross until they acquire fresh stock via trade-ins or auction. For franchised dealers, they will balance gross profit & days-in-inventory based on how many similar variants are available within a given radius of their store. Stale inventory also (obviously) leads to price drops as both types are paying floorpan interest. A Toyota dealer used car selling price might vary by $1500 on avg. For 991s sold by Hi-end independents & Porsche franchise dealers; $7k-$10k variance. My Dad used to say "if the buyer does not fall for the price the price will fall for the buyer."

Also, both dealer types will let gross profit fall if they place financing and earn finance referral fees which have a wide range of 3%-5% of the amt. financed. This is why cash buyers are not preferred. Control of the financing means more profit from this fee as well as potential inclusion of an extended service contract (even beyond CPO) or other items like tire & wheel plans. If you are a finance buyer, check bankrate.com as dealers get a wholesale rate from their lending partners and mark it up. Direct loans from Credit Unions & Insurance Co.s tend to have the best rates. Cash buyers prepare for pure negotiation. Finally, for cars not likely to break down (like todays 991) private sellers usually lead to the best deal. It strips the $10k-$15k gross profit target at this price range. The seller gets more than if traded in...so net $6k-$7k advantage? Great thread STG991-love it! I tried to keep post about 991 price variances only...

Hypothetically, if I had a guards red exterior with a black interior and yellow stitching and yellow seat belts would be considered poor taste? If it helps, PCCBs are on it.

No that sounds totally fine. It's the red leather and yellow belts/gauges that set the above example apart. Edit: that red leather does not go well with yellow at all. If I remember correctly there was a cab earlier in this thread that was yellow with that red interior.

If the dials are the only issue with a car, they can be switched out. The sport Chrono is easy. There are aftermarket ones available for the main ones. Not really an easy DIY job, but can be done.
