HOT FOR SALE: Pick of the Week 991
post edited. thanks
good to know. thanks
Not even close to a good deal... You can find 2017 991.2 Carreras that stickered for $100-$110K for sale CPO at Porsche dealers for $80-$85K asking all day long. Others might (make that WILL) disagree, but the .2 generation cars with the all-turbo lineup absolutely blow away the .1 gen cars, especially if you are talking about a base model.
IMHO ~$77K for a 2016 non-CPO base 991.1 with an $87K original sticker is crazy money. Pass...

.1's are holding value much better than .2's for a reason.

Well, carmax doesn't negotiate. I think this car has been up for sale on their site for 4 or 5 months now. Maybe they just have 2 or more black 2013 C4S models however

3 years ago, we got a loaded 2013 C2S for a pretty fair price: $82,500 on a $128k build, with 13,000 miles. W/S on that car would have been $76k.
My guess is that this coming spring, a loaded 2017 $128k build C2S, which will be a year newer (and therefore $5k more valuable comparing apples to apples) won't be easy to find for $87,500. That car (2017 C2S) currently wholesales for $89k. If anything, the 991.2 is leveling off faster than the 991.1 did. The 991.1 depreciated quickly for the first 3-4 years, and then stopped losing value. I don't know if the 991.2 will do that, but is following a shallower depreciation curve at this point.
that reason might be that they are lower in the depreciation curve. 2016 991.1 models are still sliding south at a fast rate. 2016 GTS are a good $8-10k cheaper than last summer. 997.2 have flattened completely, and 997.1 turbos are heading skyward. A 997.2 C2S for $50k looks like a lot of car for the money, as does a 997.1 turbo for $75k.

On a side note, I actually didn't know they combined this into an "ALL 991 HFS" thread. I thought it was still the .1 HFS thread (which is what I was subscribed to).

But then you're stuck with an inherently bland soundtrack and less connective throttle delivery, for a moderate 3-4 MPH trap speed gain.

I like a great engine soundtrack, but I LOVE a big, fat, high torque curve. And the .2 delivers that in spades,... Even a base .2 with nothing more than a off the shelf Cobb tune would absolutely punish a .1 GTS power-wise.
eg: going from my 996 turbo to a test drive in a 991.1 manual base literally felt like I was driving around with the parking brake on, while the .2 S fired off those endorphins I love when hitting the go pedal. Plenty of Porsche choices for whatever your preference though.

Helps have a nice reference history here like a have going back a few years already
We also invited 991.2 listings a while back to have one place for all 991 pre-owned cars. Has worked well so far and will be very helpful seeing the 992 is such a disaster.

Have a few hunches, but not 100% sure on who complained.
Reason was, that we were discussing cars for sale here from dealers that are not Rennlist sponsors. Like who cares?? This is a tool and thread the help educate buyers. Some think too much information for buyers is a bad thing. Better to be naive and be taken advantage of I guess??
Wisdom prevailed and HFS came back.
IMHO all it took was a single spirited drive in a .2 to convince me...

My .1 base doesn’t feel slow at all when I get back into it from a .2 base. It took the .2 GTS to actually make mine feel pretty powerless on immediate entry.
Either way, the .1 base with PDK/SC can turn a low 12 second 1/4 at 115 MPH and a 4 second flat 0-60. Plenty fast for me. Faster is great, but also comes with more consequence. Finding the right balance for you is ideal.

To each their own. The test drive/s I took in the 991.2 base was perhaps the most uninspiring test drive I ever took. Something about it felt so sedated and emotionless. Like a shrunken version of my Macan. Not power wise as I have zero complaints there, but just sensory wise. The fairly moderate power advantage didn’t outweigh the more gruff and auditory experience my .1 gives (which I already find too refined for a sports car in itself, but a solid balance) and the lack of thunderous bark on downshift just left a lot to be desired as it sounded too demure compared to what I’m used to. Now, the 991.2 GTS was an absolute RIOT. Very tail happy powerful, albeit a bit more turbo lag, and felt like a luxury car compared to mine, it’s so refinedly packaged. But the sound to me was still extremely disappointing, especially on downshifts.

I wouldn't say the 991.1 is a "disappointment" compared to the .2, but before my wife got her .2, she almost bought a .1. The RAS and torque won her over however. If it were late 2016 and both a 991.1 and 991.2 were sitting next to each other in a lot, both equipped with enthusiast goodies, and priced at $130k, and I were shopping for a car, it would be an easy call. At today's used pricing, the $25k spread is quite significant. Is the newer car worth $25k? I can't say that. Is it better? Well, the suspension is improved (both more comfortable and firmer), RAS is awesome, and the torque makes a significant difference both at the track and around town. Still, I can see why the 991.1 would be preferred: I just wouldn't pay 991.2 money for one.

The .1 and .2 are together in this thread now to the question above. Everyone gets along.
Still on the look out for the right manual C4 (or C4S or GTS4) cab. My problems are there are not many around and now I am picky with options #becauserennlist
So who can fire up the used car factory for a dark blue metallic/Night Blue metallic/PTS green awd cab with a manual trans with espresso natural leather and sport plus seats and autodim?

Having had experience in both the 991.2 and GT4, I can relate. The GT4 is much different to drive than the 991.2. I work the transmission and engine in a different way. They are both great, but I do think from a pure engagement standpoint, the GT4 wins. From a performance and versatility standpoint, 991.2 all the way.
