I understand the concept of paying extra for unique color paint, but $11k for silver?
I guess I'd have to see it in person, but it looks identical to my $550 metallic glacier silver BMW... then again, Porsche has that $65k or so liquid metal silver for the 918!

I guess it's all relative. $11K paint job on a $100K car and a $65K paint job on a million dollar car lol

More than 10 years ago I bought a BMW and picked it up at the factory in Munich and took a tour of the plant. Back then they gave you a smock and goggles and took you right down to the assembly line including the paint shop. I asked our guide, who had been working there for more than 25 years, the reason why they charged extra for metallic paint - his answer: because they can. The actual cost difference was a few dollars.

Pretty much if they have to break down, set up, and do one off or special colors it costs them time and money. The material cost isn't the issue. It's the time and labor.
Of course for giving you that "special and exclusive" feeling they're going to make you pay, because they've figured out that magic $$ owners are willing to pay.
Same with all the extra options you can add on cars, this is where Porsche and the dealers make big margins. Order a base model with zero boxes checked and the margin isn't that great. Add on another 20K plus in options, and the margin on that additional 20K is huge.
Dealers make most their money on the extra checked boxes.

Yeah, 10k from BMW is a bit excessive, but worse, what happens when you have to repair/replace a panel? Car goes back to Germany?
We've done some pretty crazy colors over the years (including the color-changing stuff) so I expect a good high end pro can match this, but if you're building a silver Porsche, PTS makes zero sense when you have good choices already (Arctic, GT Silver, others).
Good luck!
