Are you still running the Joe Gibbs DT40 5W40?

Also, the benefit of this? L&N Eng. billet magnetic drain plug.

Thanks

I am now running Mobil 5W50.

As for the magnetic drain plug, people smarter than me tell me to use one so I do. For about $30 it's a painless decision.

I've had my early oil / oil filter change done today. Normally costs EUR 300 but they did it for free! Thank you Porsche.
On the way back from the workshop, I passed the 2.000 mile (3200 KM) mark so officially my breaking-in period is done. Time to explore the Sport Plus mode...

Wait a minute! The guy who posted on 12-8 that he couldn't wait "to get the Mobil 0W40 OUT! I wanted a better oil in there. Notice my word choice. Better oil." then posts later on the same day that he's back to running Mobil1… but my credibility's ruined? And yeah, I did notice he changed viscosity. But hey, "Notice my word choice. Better oil." So why Joe Gibbs if Mobil1 is better? Mobil1 only just now started making higher viscosities?

That's right up there with the guy who posted on RL about his wonderful 991 throttle response while near simultaneously posting 6Speed how its incredibly annoying stumble is forcing him to buy a GT3 in order to avoid a complete nervous breakdown.

Okay, when it comes to credibility self-destruct that may be the all time champ. Or at least will have to do until the next Porsche factory employee says, "for our American customers…"

But hey, "Notice my word choice. Better oil." And people get on me for saying mineral instead of dinosaur, or petroleum, or whatever?

Chuck, you must really like hearing you own voice. Maybe someday you'll learn the difference between Mobil 0W40 and Mobil 5W50. Until then, STFU. You really need to stop commenting and posting on topics you have zero personal experience with and any direct knowledge. You need to hang out in the OT Forum only.

LV, do you mind sharing where you sourced the L&N magnetic plug? Suncoast's version does not seem to fit 991's.

Thanks.

I instruct the dealership to do 19 ft.lbs. The dealership thinks it should be more. It would be interesting to get some more real world feedback on this. Let us know what you experience to set the crush washer properly. SGT991 ordered one yesterday.

When they change the oil are there any metal pieces on the plug?

I thought drain plugs are to be torqued at 37 lbs and filter housing torqued at 19 lbs. Not sure about specifics of the magnetic plugs though - should it be torqued that much less?

No. After 2 oil changes. And about 10,000 miles.

19 ft.lbs. is the recommendation from L&N Engineering.

same tired discussion, same endless arguments and opinions...

In the end, argue all you want.. The impact from early changing at a few hundred to waiting the full 10,000 Miles (or 20 Kilometers I believe in Europe) won't matter to most of us, as the frequency of oil changes really only benefits the owner of the car at 100K+ Miles.

None one has ever attributed an engine failure (at less than 100K miles) to oil change schedule.

If you are going to keep the car for a long time or drive in more extreme environments it could matter a little, if you keep the car for less than 50 K miles who cares.. (other than potentially the service record proof aspect).

Personally I do the first change after about 1000 miles. Then on about 5,000 mile intervals, but I don't stress if I don't get to it and run over by a couple thousand miles. But then I do it myself so it costs me about $45 bucks for the Mobil One and filter. It is more often than is necessary, but I do it also because I enjoy it.

If I was paying $400 to a dealer, it would probably be at 10,000 miles.

Actually, I want the next owner of my car to have a great ownership experience too. So maybe in doing the early oil change for him/her too.

Funny how your opening sentences completely contradict your closing. But I'm glad you do an early change and 5,000 mile intervals.
