Default Engine compartment hood latch

My latch fires when I pull the switch, but it wont release the latch on the engine compartment lid. Does anybody know if there is a manual release cable anywhere?

Thanks in advance.

I believe the only one is on the inside just in case you are a tiny person and you manage to lock yourself in ...

there used to be one in the earlier models hidden behind the front wheel arch liner not sure about the 991s ...

Just to make sure, you do know there is a secondary manual release you must pull once the inside release opens the hood? If it's not opening at all, sounds like a trip to the dealer is in order.

Yes that handle triggers the latches both for the frunk and engine compartment, I can trigger the motor for the engine latch from the switch inside the car, it just doesn't release the catch.

If you can hear the mechanism trying to work, then you might want to try pushing down on the lid while you push the button. Relieving pressure on the catch like that might be enough to allow it to work.

As you face the rear of the car it is on the top right side of the engine under a black plastic cover. I too had a problem with this and had the dealer replace the cable as its plastic anchor broke off from the engine latch

Thanks ml, I found the cable, it was able to grab it and pull the cable but it still wouldn't release the engine hood. It's like the latch is locked, but no cable is attached to it. To the dealer I go.

I had this happen about 6 months into ownership. It was really weird, the dealer showed me part of the release mechanism and it was all mangled. At first they sort of blamed it on me and thought it got messed up with my 9500ci radar install, but the rear bumper was never removed and the wiring goes nowhere near the latch.

What was really weird was it happened not too long after I pulled the frunk emergency pull handle- maybe something wasn't getting installed correctly with these cars early on?

(HAHA -- just realised how OLD this thread was until it was revived earlier..... ! Nonetheless, still would be interesting to hear what the problem was.....)

Isn't there a fuse that should be checked? I know that if your 911 has no power, you have to attach a battery to the fuse panel in order to get the hoods to release.... possible that the fuse is dead or something and not releasing? Just a stretch as I think about what could be the issue..... Love this sort of mystery, as it is great learning opp about the nuances of these wonderful cars!

Assuming that the latch cable became disconnected from the latch, here is a description of what someone had to do to solve this: https://rennlist.com/forums/991/1092...l#post15244913
