My dealer charges $320 for a oil change and fluid top off

I did my first oil change my self at 1500mi for ~$70
Durametric is $287
-—----------------------------
Total: ~$360

So I'd about brake even on a first oil change

Although service charges vary from State to State, I only paid $250 with a coupon for my oil and filter change. There was also a service bulletin that they executed, and they hand washed and vacuumed my car, and of course I was given a loaner.
It amazes me that virtually 100% of car buyers negotiate the price they are willing to pay for a car, but hardly anyone negotiates the service price. They simply pay whatever the dealer charges, and in most cases don't even ask what the price is beforehand. For example the four year maintenance charge for my 997S was well over $1100. A couple of emails to the Service Manager, and I was able to get he same service for $400 less. Still expensive for what they did, but a lot better than $1100.

Ah, thanks for the thread! Seems to be a bit of false advertising doesn't it? I was looking to purchase because my local dealer wants $525 just for an oil change so thinking I'll just do it myself but wanted to reset the oil service message. I guess I should ask my local dealer what they would charge just for resetting the service reminder, probably only $400:-)

My dealer refused to reset the service reminder without doing the actual service, and raping, er - I mean charging, me accordingly.

Do it yourself & note to self on when etc....find a dealer who wants your
other service/recall/purchase business & never pay to have light turned off.

EDIT: Own two new Acura MDX's - service reset alert procedure is in the owner's manual - that's how it should be!
