Favorite Color
Really wanted Viper Green. Also like Gulf Orange and Mexico Blue. Just couldn't get past the feeling that I would feel too conspicuous, especially in the V.G. So I ordered Carmine Red. But damn, Viper Green! Oct. 24 build.
you only live once ... go for it! you wont regret it!
The first really nice 914 I ever saw, and it was absolutely time-capsule perfect, was Speed Yellow and black and owned by PCA technical editor Allan Caldwell. He also had a 911SC, Speed Yellow over black. When he showed up at a concours with his new 2002 996 and I said to him, "Speed Yellow and black?" He replied, "Is there anything else?"
Former PNWR president Wally Calkins, on the other hand, was so adamant in his preference that he refers to everything other than Guards Red as primer.
For me, growing up in Puyallup, WA, a 911 was a pretty rare sighting. There was really only one in town that I knew of, a 75 Carrera in Signal Orange. What a great color! But then I went out to SIR one day and there were at least 50 Porsches, mostly 911's, all parked together, and that was when it hit me- these are ALL great colors!
That's pretty much the way things are today. You ask me what's my favorite Porsche color? The one I'm looking at!

Subjective as everyone has said, but for me . . .
You can never go wrong with a black Porsche. Black is classy and sporty at the same time. However, it's a PITA to keep clean and it seems that every third 911 is black. Another 50% of 911s seem to be white, silver or grey. All nice, but somewhat boring imo. I think that you can do better than white >black>grey>silver.
I try to have something that is more rare - like a real color. Blue, red, green, yellow, orange. But it's a difficult decision. These are big purchases and you want to be sure that you don't buy something that you hate next year. In the past, I've psyched myself out and gone safe and conservative. My first three 911s were (aargh) silver, grey and white. My current order is sapphire blue (finally!) - hands down the most beautiful color in the current standard pallet imo.

"The Bumblebee: Featuring a black exterior (paint code L041), these cars sported Sunflower yellow trim (paint code L13K). Black body paint color was always an additional cost special option on standard 914 Porsche cars, but was included as a standard component on the black 914 LE cars. All but one photo of the 914 Porsche Can Am prototype cars are Bumblebee cars. The black-based 914 LE color scheme is unique to the 914 LE cars and has no precedent with the Can Am race cars or the 1973 911 Carrera RS series cars. The majority of 914 Limited Editions seem to be Bumblebees."
