There is no change in sound in sport or sport+ in excess of 3500 rpm, or higher. I don't have any suspicion that there is an issue with the vacuum lines. If the OEM PSE needs to be manually switched on, no matter what mode (as this vid that I watched showed), then it makes sense that I am underwhelmed with the sound as it is now. But, I am confident that getting the switch panel and reprogram will give me what I am looking for.
IIRC from my 991.1 C4S, with PSE, Sport or Sport Plus does engage PSE as well. On my 991.1 C2S without PSE, no change in sound with Sport or Sport Plus. That said, as I've noted above, without PSE - at idle the valves are open. They close from ~1500rpm - 3500 rpm where they open again - regardless of what mode your are in. With the PSE option, the valves are mostly fully open when the switch is engaged (they partially close according to some strange logic in the midrange.) Programming will make your car operate like it has the PSE option.

Sport/Sport Plus does slightly raise the idle, so you get a small change in sound from that.

UPDATE (comments welcome):
the combi switch pack was installed and programming done. The exhaust valves are non functional in any mode or RPM, or by using the switch. Before the switch and programming, the valves were activated initially at cold start, but after a minute or so, they de-activate (direct visual inspection). I need to check to see if this is the case now.

Brief background: I installed the center "silencer" and used the appropriate OEM parts, and followed the retro fit procedure precisely. I did not replace the side mufflers, and I used the S tips (they fit perfectly). The car is a C2S, 2014. I installed the switch and panel, the dealer programmed it.

If I see valve activity on cold start, this should mean that there is no vacuum line issue, possibly a control valve problem. If it fails, it appears that it could be a vacuum line (possible, but unlikely), or, the control valve (COV). I may have the dealer look at it, even though they did not do the install, it should be obvious that it was done to spec, and should be a warranty issue.

Congrat's. So you ordered the parts then DIY install for $1530?

I've passed on a number of 991.1S cars w no PSE. Keeping this thread in mind, maybe I can consider a 991.1S w no PSE.

Yes, but the dealer installed the button and reprogrammed the ECU.

How were you able to get the parts for $1500? Suncoast has it listed for $2500 just for the parts.

So reading through this if someone with a 'S' model wanted the PSE sound all the time then simply swapping out the PSE centre muffler would give that effect, or are the side mufflers different on the PSE version of the system as well?

If that is the case then for many its a cost effective mod.

You don't need all the parts in the kit. The most expensive thing you can forgo is the tips. If you buy the rest of the kit pieces a la carte, it comes out to $1,500.

And you can save a few more bucks by not buying the plastic tubing or the two straps, which can be re-used. You will need to buy the two braided steel vacuum lines, and the little 'L' shaped metal piece that connects those two steel lines, and the new control panel if you want to control the PSE. Oh, and the new muffler.

Yes, all you'd need to do is swap the PSE center muffler, and put a cap on the end of the vacuum lines. Since the default position for the PSE is loud, then it will be on all the time. You'd still probably want to buy 6 new bolts that hold the center muffler to the sides, since the existing bolts will probably be rusted pretty good.

The side mufflers are exactly the same in the PSE.

I have factory equipped PSE and I DEFINITELY get a change in sound by just pressing the exhaust button (not pressing sport/sport plus) and this does not raise the idle. In my 981 PSE, however, I get NO change in sound at idle unless I press sport/sport plus. The systems appear to have some differences (although maybe this could be attributed to displacement difference, not sure). HTH

Okay so if I am reading below correctly use your existing tips.

Any chance you could put together a parts list with the parts numbers of exactly what you would need (including the interior button) ? If I missed this somewhere in the post my apologies.

I'm going to pay an indi to put the exhaust in and then have the dealer program. My dealer said they would program no problem.

This has been done a couple times, although you don't need the cheap vacuum tube: https://rennlist.com/forums/991/9209...r-non-pse.html

Default Parts list

The parts shown on that link are $400 and some odd dollars. Perhaps I should restate what I am trying to accomplish. I am attempting to add PSE including console button to s model. My understanding is you can do this for 1500. Including cabin switch. What parts are necessary to accomplish this task ?

Sorry, I thought it was obvious that you need to also buy the PSE center muffler, which is about $1,000. Google "991S PSE center muffler part number" and it should come up quick.

At this point, couldn't you use a valve controller for manual control over when the car is loud and quiet? In theory it would work just the same as PSE (except that you would use a remote and note a switch on the console), you'd just need to wire in the solenoid and any additional vacuum tubing needed.

How much would that save you, considering the control portion of the PSE kit costs only about $180 plus labor to install the switch in the console?
