I bet it is sooner rather than later. The prototypes testing looked more 'finished' than is often the case if it is a long way off. Also with the recent introduction of similar souped up Boxster and Cayman versions, I think they are moving faster with the mew models. I wonder also if P watches these websites to ascertain interest levels, of which I think there is a lot for this car.

If you wait for the ultimate 911 before buying....you'll never have the car. My concern is that the cameras will become so ubiquitous that there will no point in having a high performance car of any sort.
- it will arrive prior to the mid-life 991.2 facelift, as the 'swansong' for this generation
- it will arrive towards the end of the 991.2 facelift ;lifetime, as its swan song
- or somewhere between those two...
If you look at the 997 GTS, then it would suggest the latter, however with the intro of the Boxster/Cayman GTS models, and the fact that the 991 model lineup is 'complete' with the
exception of a GTS, then that could suggest the former.

The GTS mule appears to be camouflaging the updated taillights (a la 918, Macan style). Would they introduce hat refresh detail on a GTS that is introduced before the 991.2 Carrera?

good point, I doubt it; and as has been pointed out, this car has a different exhaust system (well at least a center section) which might well suggest that it
could be the 4turbo mule and not a GTS (which we would hope was a flat 6 3.8)
I wonder if the intent is to replace the 3.4L flat 6 with this 4 turbo, and retain the 3.8L or simply to add the engine as a 3rd entry level variant for the 911 (and Boxster/Cayman)?
I don't bet. But I hope it shows up at Geneva Auto Show in March of 2015 as an early face lifted MY2016. I should have the optional 'Alcantara' interior like the gt3...except it will have working rear seats! A choice of Manual or PDK (perhaps the new/improved Sport PDK of the gt3). And maybe the option of having 918-type 'sport bucket seats'! It will also sport the 'active' front aero vanes! Finally, I pray for it to have 'Rear Axle Steering', like in the current gt3! If it gets most of that - plus a tad more more hp/torque than the current 991 but still in a NA motor - it will be a fabulous & very desirable model!

The face lifted MY2016 991 will have, at the very least, re-designed LED tail lights and front daytime/nighttime supplemental LED's, perhaps a reworked rear deck lid and a new optional sport design steering wheel (918/Macan type)!

I forget, did the 997 GTS come with the X51 powerkit as std?
