From Track Rat E46 M3 to 981S to 991 -- my journey
Good evening gents. Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Preeth Kumar and I have a serious problem! I love cars.
I graduated from college in 2006 and did the most sensible thing. Took out a loan after I got my first job and got an E46 M3. Over 7 years, i made that car a true track car.
Here is a snapshot of my M3 -
You can read more about it here - http://pkumarm3.wordpress.com/
I eventually got a sweet deal at the dealership I work at - Town Porsche - and got a 981S.
I had equity in my Cayman S so I decided to take it and take advantage of the new Porsche Dealer Employee Lease Program.
After driving a lot of cars that Porsche currently offers, I fell in love with the 991. My biggest gripe with the cayman s is that mid corner tq is lacking. The car turns in like no other, but falls on it's face when you slowly apply throttle mid corner. I also found the car to be a bit too small as my daily driver.
So why 991 vs 991s or stick with the 981s? First we know that I found the 981s to be a bit too tight. I disliked not having atleast some form of backseat. I tried to sit in the 991 back seat today and it was impossible. I think the back seat in my 996 was bigger! But I think the movement of the motor closer and closer to the middle has removed rear seating dimensions.
Why did I not get a 991s - I couldn't afford it. I think the 991 does 95% of the things the 991s does. I am not wealthy enough to afford the S and I'm realistic in what I can use the car for. That being said, I don't think the jump from 991 to 991s is as big as 981 to 981s.
How does it compare to the 981s - the turn in is equally as sharp. There is no oversteer mid corner with full throttle application. The rear end feels much more stable. The front end feels great with the wider track. I like the interior space more. There is more tq throughout the rev range. I have a very short commute to work - 9 miles each way - so I look for smaller roads where I can carry momentum through corners. I have a few corners where I am carrying 4-6 mph more in the 991 than I was in the 981.
I can't wait to track this car.
The car has been at my dealership since 12/3/13. Never been prepped so the paint is perfect and the car had 8 miles on it. It's awesome to have a new 911. There really is nothing like a 911.
I will be performing a proper detailing with opti-coat as soon as I have free time.
Here is the options list on the car:
2014 Porsche 911 Carrera coupe
Black/Black
14 way seats
PDK
Ventilated seats
sports chrono
Parking sensors front and rear
Multi-function heated steering wheel
Modifications that are coming:
Clear side markers
Sharkwerks x pipe
Sport design steering wheel (lose multi function and heat but gain paddles - although I am enjoying the multifunction)
Here are some pics of the car:
Thanks. Can't wait to share more pics with you guys.

I too moved from a E46 m3 to 987 Boxster S, 987 Cayman S and to a 981 Boxster S pdk with PSE. The 981 S boxtser is phenominal and Porshaa IMO is so much more sporty than an M3
I agree that the new 991 is very stable and the rear feels more stable and grippy than the 981S. When I had the Cayman, I missed the Convertibel feel so from then on I always get a Cab. I probably will order a 2015 991 Carerra cab with PSE, PASM, PDk, sport chrono etc . I like the S for PDCC but likely stay with 991 Carerra cab
