for teaching the youngsters manual driving. They can keep the manual alive!
Also,I can bet anyone that driving a manual is better for kids, they will need to pay more attention to the car and road than texting.

Randy Pobst said it. And, my friends who have PDK. These are very experienced drivers either autocrossing or tracking with the PDK. They all have done actual tests that demonstrate the computer is better than the human!

I'm sure a vibrator can last longer than most men too.

I still prefer my stick

I never thought if that ! You have a great point there. Maybe manuals should be mandatory for teenagers

10 years ago, I would have agreed. Now, and for the future, "driving" is and will forever be different. Much lees interaction with and manual control of the car is called for (or even desirable). Start, steer, stop is pretty much it, and soon Google will take care of most of that.

Lets enjoy it while we can!

Sunday I was eating lunch with some cycling teammates. The just turned 15 year old is starting driver's ed this week at the school owned by his parents. I told father and son I would be glad to throw in some manual learning when he gets his permit. I still believe it's a skill worth having.

That's the big difference between Europe and the USA. Here in Europe everyone learns to drive a manual when they go for their driver's license. That is IMO also why a manual isn't (or doesn't seem to be) as special as it is in the US. Over here, most people get bored by manuals after driving them for a while and think an automatic is more convenient. Of course, they don't learn heel and toe, because that isn't necessary for driving in normal traffic.

This is probably also the reason why there are a lot less complaints about the PDK in european forums than in US forums. It's just a different view on the subject I guess...

That just doesn't make sense. I'm from Europe, this is a myth that people there get bored of manuals and want an auto. Not to mention that this point can't be valid with a sports car...that's a totally different niche market. Point is...if you're stuck in traffic everyone on this Planet would prefer an Auto, including myself. Sports car driving is a totally different experience and that is what we're talking about here. Please don't confuse US readers with the " All great Europeans that handle a stick ".

This could be upgraded to:

Hands at 9 and 3. Feet on or near throttle or brake, no stomping around in the footwell.

I'm with Suzy on this one. MT is a bland, trivial and every day affair over here ! Most high tech sports car enthusiasts will opt for dual clutch gearboxes.
