Interesting post. Marketers keep spending a lot of research money on the old Venus and Mars preference in cars. Some of their findings might shed light on why women don't buy as many Porsche 911's as men. According to their analysis, men seem to prefer either power and durability and/or style, status and sport. So at least in the U.S. that means trucks or fancy sports cars. Women on the other hand prefer reliability, cuteness and/or how it fits with how they want to be seen getting out of it. One study indicated a car is somewhat of a fashion statement for women. So practicality and fitting into their overall style ruled in the decision process. Again, these are general preferences or averages and of course no one is average. One of the cars that became a "girly car" by accident was the VW Beetle. An overwhelming percentage of purchasers were women. Maybe because it's cute and reliable and the women like how it complements their style. Not sure what all of this means other than a Porsche 911 probably hits men's preferences better than women's sweet spot. But not all women. And a lot of guys have Beetles.
Any of your friends mention anything about you driving a Porsche? Good or bad?
Well, its not here yet.. but my friends who know that I finally bought one, know it is the perfect car for me and are very happy that I finally managed to get one. (ok, some are quite impressed actually)
Aesthetically, I don't think the 911's are geared towards women, I think it is a masculine car. But that is probably what I like about them..
The classic unmistakable contours and shape that makes a Porsche a Porsche. Not to mention the power, handling.. It all equates to pure driving pleasure.

That's the thing above all else that defines a Porsche: pure driving pleasure. People can think and say whatever they want about a woman in a 911, but when you say that they got to know you are legit. You go, girl!

It's absolutely amazing to me that Celine Dion enjoys Porsches. Sorta the Jerry Seinfeld counterpart.
