Over the years, the performance and handling is what made the 911 somewhat sexy. Now if we're talking Ferrari, Lambo, etc, we're talking sexy.
I have to admit though, that the 991 is the most sexy 911 Porsche has ever made. As the car becomes lower and wider it is starting to approach the sexy stance that other exotics have that make for a "sexier" look.
This to my mind is spot on, and reflects where my original comment came from. If you were never sexy in the first place.... In fact I would say the original beauty of the 911 really came from its profound purposefulness. There is a place where engineering prowess verges into art and beauty, and that for 50 years has been where the 911 lives. I really feel though that this seventh generation has crossed the rubicon into a realm where its beauty shines regardless of what one knows of its performance and ability to unite driver and car. I still don't think I would call it sexy. Not even sure what that means. But beautiful? Beyond words.

As background, I've owned 3 different generations of the 911 - Carrera, 964 and 997. I have a deposit on a 991-50 for Spring/euro delivery.

I am a p-car junkie (and have owned a bunch of other p-cars) and am looking forward to the 991, but my eyes are wandering as I see other cars that IMO look more appealing/exotic (although, likely mechanically inferior).

What does the community think about the 991 vs older generations?

May I suggest cross-posting on another thread? Bit of a biased sample.

Walk into a showroom this weekend, sit behind the wheel, take in the unique smell of Porsche leather, fire up the engine, imagine yourself on a lone country road with your favorite date, and tell me it isn't sexy.

The 993 is still the most beautiful, whether narrow or wide body. The interior of the 991 is modern. The base of the windshield is unreachable while seated in a driving position. This is quite different from the intimate interior of 993 and earlier cars. I prefer the 993 intimacy, but can't deny the vastly superior driving dynamics of the 991. I sold my 993tt after buying my 991C2S cab. I was hoping to acquire a 356 Speedster. Now I'm going back to my fourth 993, hopefully a tt. I won't sell my 991 because it is a great, and superior car by any measure except soul. And since soul is different for each of us, I guess I have just repeated what has already even said.

Thank you for stating the obvious which seemed to go unnoticed until Post #33.

The 911 always has been the girl next door. With the 991, she just got prettier, sexier and more desirable. It had to, considering the R8 is the new supermodel who moved into the neighborhood. The Ferrari girls have always lived in the neighborhood but they have always been aloof and looking more and more butch as they grow older although the sister who moved to California is still pretty. The Lamborghini brothers OTOH are men ? who live at the far end of the neighborhood and I never had to bring sex appeal into the equation.

The 991 is still sexy looking. I prefer the looks of my former 997 GTS and think the '98 C2S is even better looking. Of course the '55-'58 Speedster wins in my book. However, looks aside, the 991S is the best car I've ever owned and driven and that trumps looks or sexiness in a car.

When I think sexy and exotic in the Porsche world, the original 911 Turbo comes to mind. While the Countach may have had a more exotic look, it certainly wasn't accessible to the general public and it didn't fare well on the track. The Turbo was a stud for its time.

It seems that the 991 could be the one of the first 911s to take over the original Turbo's burden.

I have always loved the 911 Carrera's .. But I liked the 911s so much, that this was the year I struck and finally bought my Porsche.

I can't say that I think it is sexy.. but I certainly feel sexy driving around in it..

Can't wait to take it on the road... there will be lots of road trips for me

Can you elaborate on that ? I see little styling or technical queues referencing the 928 ?!
All I see is a classic 911 shape. But modernized, advanced technologically, with a sportier, more aggressive stance than ever before. Yet it is still retaining its class, elegance and purity in the same breath ! It's a keeper !

I've seen them stationary and driving in the Stuttgart parking lot and around town. They are mesmorizing ! Can't get it out of my head. For now I need my backseats, and I love my C2 so much I'll probably keep it forever, but one day ...

You said it yourself. When the 928 debuted as a replacement for the 911, it was modernized, advanced technologically, with a sportier, more aggressive stance, as well as oozing with class and elegance.

But no purity. That was the 928's downfall.

This time around, Porsche is attempting to address that with "styling and technical queues", which I acknowledged when I said "despite a rear engine and familiar silhouette".

I think making the hips wider on 911's throughout the years adds to the curvy appeal of the female to car association. Once the first Turbo was introduced I was instantly taken with the new body. Since the 991 it is now lower and longer I can see the correlation to increased sexiness.

Sexy like a Panamera.
As with the 997 I prefer the narrow body on the 991, starting to grow on me.
