manual owners - 7th gear?

manual owners - 7th gear?
Anyone bother using 7th gear? I know it is primarily for fuel efficiency, but I can't personally ever see engaging it.
I very rarely even use 6th unless I am cruising in an empty highway.

Just picked up my 991s in OH and drove back to FL.
I can say 7th gear was very useful for highway driving and at one point actually achieved 31mpg when on a flat road for 10 miles or so.
Impressive to say the least for a 400hp beast!

We travelled from Toronto to Watkins Glen for a track day this past summer. I was in my 2008 E90 M3 and a friend was in his 2012 991 C2S, I had to fill up at least once, he made it there on one take easily. The difference in MPG was big!!!

I love how downshifting from 7th in the manual will guide you into the next lower gear..you don't even need to find it yourself..the car just guides it. I never felt that before in a manual. After a bit of practice, 7th to 2nd or anywhere else is second nature as well. What a great gearbox. Can be a little stiff starting up in the 30 degree weather, but feeling her warm up and get slick in my hands is just..awesome

7th is a highway gear for economy, that's about it.. Unless you get it to 85 or 90mph it doesn't accelerate very well because your only at 2500rpm in a very long gear. I love the gearbox too. Going from 7th to 5th or 3rd takes a little practice, but 7th to 6th is smooth.

Use it all the time when cruising.
Rpm's drop down and the subtle engine rumble engages..

I use it anytime I'm going 60 or higher, even if it's just for a couple of miles. It's there for economy, and simple enough to downshift if you need to get moving faster. On the base 3.4, it's only turning 2400rpms at 85mph, that's TALL!

Huh. Seems I may be the only one not shifting up into 7th. I'll have to try it out next time I am on the freeway.
Perhaps the route I'll take is from 5th to 7th once I am up to cruising speed. No need to go through 6th then.

Why would you not use 7th gear?
