However I don't think it has any major impact on the real world pace and driving experience. As well as this, I think that the price of generously specced C2S with power kit will be pushed well into GT3 territory which doesn't make it a sensible purchase.[/QUOTE]
I agree. The price will be very close to a 997 tt. You have to love the thought of normally aspirated power. Oh and you had better have a little money to burn!

The German configurator has the powerkit option as 13804 euros. It looks as though many of the performance options in Germany are nearly a 1 to 1 equivalent in euros to dollars, ie PCCBs are 8505.50 euros and $8520. Assuming this to hold true to for US pricing, the powerkit should be under $14000. With the inclusion of PSE and sports chrono at $4800, the extra 30hp should be about $8000 to $9000.

I saw a "drag race" between a 991S and a 997.2 GTS (both PDK) with the cars in a rolling start, 1st gear, Sport Plus mode, "mash the throttle pedal" (push down on the floor button) which took the cars over about a quarter mile, from about 20 mph to about 110 or 120 mph. Level ground, slight tail breeze.
For three runs, the 991 S consistently moved ahead of the 997 GTS. It wasn't by much, but in every gear, the 991 was a tad quicker.
I had expected the GTS to have the edge since it wasn't a launch mode drag from a standing start, so any upgrades to PDK wouldn't be in play. Still, once the initial reaction time was negated (whether the 991 was a nose ahead or the 997 was ahead) you could see the relative movement of the cars, side by side, and the 991 was consistently moving ahead in every gear and clearly at 110 or 120, both cars had another 50 mph of acceleration to go.
Overall, I guess it makes sense to see Porsche put the "new" car slightly ahead of the "old" car, but since the old car in this case is also the hot rod version of the old car, I expected the GTS would still hold the edge. It would also have gone some way towards me rationalizing the GTS as a better all-rounder for my purposes.
As ever, I have to make the note that if only the Power Kit included steering with feel and feedback, it would be worth it. I'd just have to get a body shop to erase the script from the computer cooling fan shroud. : )
Anyway, bring on the Power Kit 3 ... I mean 991 PK3 ... errr ... 991 GT3 ... : |

Power kits are for bragging rights IMHO. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

I was driving a Prius, a Honda van and my trusty MGB. My base 991 is OMG fast. For me the only benefit would be the really nice carbon fibre.

the roads around my dealer are pretty bad. The GTS was sliding more. The 991 w/ its active roll bars (PDC?) was WAY flatter and the suspension didnt hop around as much. It was noticeable.

For sure the 991 S and GTS are very, very different cars. I've driven both on the same roads and I agree with your assessment.

I have the X51 engine in my 997 C4S and in my opinion the big news was not the meager HP increase, it was the broadening of the torque band, and the change in character of the engine by making it revvier.

IMO you are framing the entire question incorrectly by focusing on resale. Are you buying the car for yourself, or the guy you sell it to? I buy my cars for me, I don't give a hoot if anyone else likes it.
