Default I'm going for it

Hi, 2 years ago sold my 993 cab for an Audi S5 cab. S5 is nice car and fast but I so missed that 911 and the engine sound. I'm now taking the plunge and trading in for a 991, on order. A few months ago I was contemplating a 997 but then I saw the 991 at dealer and I was immediately hooked.
I have to admit this is the best looking 911 ever, in my opinion.
I'm ordering black on black full leather, MT. I figure if I'm spending this kind of money it should have full leather, and the stitching is nice.
Does anyone have an opinion on full leather? Resale, maintenance, etc

I've chosen full leather a couple of times, including a cab. It's not high maintenance and it doesn't bring any particular downside. Cost isn't even all that excessive, all things considered.
The upside for me is it goes a long, long way towards bringing the cabin up to snuff -- after all, it's most of $100K club, you'd think they could do better with the furnishings than what looks like New York Taxi cab vinyl and "lowest bid" plastics.

As for resale, it won't make you rich or poor. It will help a car sell quickly to a buyer more willing to pay up for a fine example.

In simple terms, I think it will bring a little added joy. I even go so far as to get the steering column in leather (it's about $300, but you look at the thing all the time, so having it in leather goes a long way in my book to making the whole area around the driver feel rewarding. Crazy, I know, but there it is. And I think the cheapo vinyl sun visors are just insulting, so I get those in Alcantara to match the headliner that comes with the full leather option. Even in the $190K 4.0 RS, the visors are plastic vinyl and Porsche asks for another $300 (or whatever) to get the visors done in black or red Alcantara (just a different synthetic/plastic material!) so it's all nuts.

For a decade or more, I just never cared about the cabin trim. Just drive. But when the 996 GT3 came along, the ovoid cabin design in Ford Taurus curves of hard plastic and irregular gaps and patchwork fit and finish, I just couldn't bring myself to drop $100K on the counter and take all that taxi cab vinyl. In full leather, the 996 GT3 with a few adornments likes the carbon trim pieces over the door sills made it quite a nice place to be ... when you weren't flogging the living daylights out of the thing. : )

Very much agree than when spending that kind of money you don't want "Taxi Plastic"!

went from NBL full in the 997 to "standard" non full leather really not that big a deal. My biggest issue is the sand interior reflection on the windscreen- wasnt an issue w NBL or black but disconcerting in beige

The 991 won't sound much like your 993, but it does sound good. Agree that full leather is no problem in a cab and is a nice look.

I paid $4500 to have my grandfather's entire couch reupholstered using fabric I imported from Europe -- done in the exact same black autolux leather Ferrari uses with red deviated stitching around the seams. The couch looks fantastic and when I was configuring the 991 - I could no longer pay the exorbitant price of nearly what my sofa cost for what's probably less than one hyde worth of leather.

Realistically the car should come with full leather but it doesn't and for what Porsche is charging for it - it isn't worth it. The standard dash is not "taxi-cab vinyl" -- it looks far superior to any taxis I've sat in including the Mercedes taxis in Germany.

Save your money and spend it on something else like the sport exhaust. How many base or S model 993's have full leather?

You will never get even close to your money back for the full leather option upon resale.

I've had 3 911's (the first in '84) a Boxster S and a Cayenne. Ordered full leather in all of them and never regretted it for any reason. The 991 has been upgraded interior wise so maybe FL isn't as big of a deal, but I'd still be very inclined to get it if I were buying a new car.

the new "faux" dash material is really nice.. much nicer than my 2011 cayenne... and much nicer than 997.2 faux dash... i will say i enjoy the panamera dash more.. even without full leather you get that stitching across even w/ the "embossed" pleather.

To meet my budget I had to choose between full leather and "performance" options like SC, PSE and PDCC. I opted for the leather.

It's matter of personal choice, but when I saw the 2-tone black/platinum full leather next to the standard interior it was worth it to me. The $175k turbo in the showroom also had full leather standard kind of looked same from a finish standpoint.
For $3700 I think it's not too bad price. To make it "sting" less I opted to pass on the Bose and went with standard radio which I read is very good.

I went with the black/grey leather interior too and also passed on the Bose. I'm. It going to track it and figured I deserve the interior upgrade.

I was going to get the standard leather (same as on my 997.2 cab) but found a new C2S cab with everything I wanted and it has the full leather...glad I have it now and it is very nice! Probably the single most luxury option that brings the interior up to par with $100K + cars. My 997.2 had the standard leather interior and I never cared for the rear seats and sun visor cheap vinyl look.
