Escort Radar Hardwire Help Please
Over the weekend, I hardwired my radar, and it powers on as expected. The problem is when I turn off the ignition, and even after arming the car, there is still power going to the radar. So, I am forced to having to remember to manually turn it off. Does anyone know how I can get it to turn off with the ignition?
I am using the open slot (B7), but I have also tried to piggy back off the B6, and B9 with the same result.

I was just wondering if you turn on the radar detector, after the car has been sitting for a while and before you turn on the ignition, if the detector turns on?? The reason I ask is that in newer cars some switched systems do not turn off immediately when the ignition is switched off but rather 20 to 30 minutes later when the car goes to “sleep”. Ran into this on a BMW.

which fuse box did u use? I hardwired my val 1 into the passenger footwell one. Had to try a bunch of different slots but eventually I did find one that was switched off with ignition. Most power off around 30 minutes later which I did not want to do. I am not sure off hand of the exact fuse but I believe it was the one for the passenger side ventilated seat.

no luck. tried all of the unused slots on the passenger fusebox, but they're not switched enabled. There was no other 10A slot, and I didn't want to piggy off of any non-10A. Also, the radar stayed on for 1hr plus instead turning off after 20-30 mins like some had thought. Maybe the 991 is different from the other models. oh well, it is what it is.

I wire all of mine to the rear wiper, it's a switched fuse that tuns on and off with the car. However, if you use that feature to save gas your radar will turn off and back on at lights. I have that feature shut off and it works great. I do it in all my 911s. Rear wiper fuse is the ticket.

I will be doing the same install this weekend, any problem getting the wire up to the mirror/radar unit? Is the window post molding just a 'pull off'?
I also read that if you did not get the smoking package that there might be an unused power source in the center console that was meant for the cigarette lighter. was thinking of getting my power there....any thoughts?

Yes, a few thoughts:
- running the wire is easy, just don't use a sharp tool that could do damage when you tuck the wire in!
- use a meter and find an available switched circuit, there are plenty on both sides!
- be gentle removing the carpeted fuse box cover, if you don't slide it rearwards you will break the flimsy guide tab (ask me how I know )
- the factory bracket and suction cups allow you to tuck it above the mirror, Maybe not an elegant solution, but cheap and effective.
- Oh, and Escort's newer 8500 for $300 is all the radar detector anyone needs! Trade-in your old one and get it for $220! (don't pay extra for the bogus "blue" plastic lens either)
