Default Option 583: "Smokers Package"

have been told that without the smokers package the change cup in front of the center console arm rest is open, with "smokers package" it has a door that flips up and open (hiding items when needed)

are there are other differences we know of (obviously besides it having cigarette lighters in the 12V hole)

the close able door sounds like a good option and not necessarily needed just for "smoking".

.....another Porsche quirk...

and Opening Shown Here: (if someone has a better picture I would appreciate it, this is a picture I constructed of my build)

Not much space under the door in the smokers package....I decided against it.

I decided against it too. There are already 3 outlets in car and the ash tray is tiny if you get it. Some people have commented that the area looks unfished without it but I saw a car without it and think it looked fine.

I went with it as I like the clean look and like the idea of having another power outlet.

i'd say go for it. i didn't order it hoping to put my phone or glasses there but found it's too small for anything but change and is right in the middle of the armrest so you can't lay your arm down if anything is protuding.
doesn't look bad but imo the covered area looks more finished.

I thought I would put my change or cell phone there.

Do any 991 owners have the non-smokers package? Does an iPhone with a case fit in there? It's the only reason I wouldn't get the smokers package. Otherwise I love the clean look the smokers package affords.

Also, anyone know about the possibility of a retrofit in case I hate it?

The "pocket" is not large enogh for a cell phone or sunglasses. It is a change holder, nothing more.

The iPhone doesn't fit with or without case, neither do glasses or pretty much anything else - smaller drink cups, cans, etc.
Good only for change, spare keys (I carry some other keys separately).
I still prefer it to the smoker's pkg but only because I'm picky and don't like the chrome strip on the door flap for one, and I would likely never leave it with the flap open.
My guess is one day someone will create either a permanently fixed lid, or perhaps more likely a retractable lid but for the non-smoker open box.

A Porsche freebie - extra content for no additional charge - is a very rare thing. Might improve the long term value of the car!
Seriously, not a big deal, but I think it looks better "finished" with the cover (but I also agree with the guy wanting chrome "bars" for the unused switch blanks in that other thread also!)

I have it, the center console looks more finished, you get an extra plug that comes out handy and the amber light gives a nice touch too.

I have the smokers package and the ashtray really fits very little in it but I do like hte finished look.

Originally when I ordered the dealer had asked me if I were a smoker and I said no I wanted it for the finished look ... I believe that encouraged them because they ended up ordering it for their unsold cars too.
