991 Engine Design
Does the 991 carry over the same basic engine design of the 996 and 997?
I had a 2003 911 C4s, that unfortunately cracked two cylinder liners due to faulty design/manufacturing process, the only fix was a new engine. I loved the car, but don't want to have that hanging over my head again. Does anyone know if Porsche has addressed this?

As I understand it the 991 is 997.2 engine with a few mods so it revs a little higher to get to 400HP from 385 for the S and 350 for non S. This is a completely different engine than your 996 or 997.1. Alusil instead of Locsil block. Closed deck block instead of open deck. No IMS. DFI. Different sump design dry sump sorta. Better cooling design including three radiators up front. The 997.2 was introduced in late 2008 and so far seems to be trouble free. This engine can be identified by oil filter on top of engine.
