Default Bumperettes gone?

I think those hideous are finally gone at least from looking at the US based spy pictures. Anyone knows for sure? I did not mind them that much before but quite happy to see them gone if that's indeed the case.

I doubt it. Would be nice, though. Most Porsche ad pictures usually show the European versions. Can't trust "spy pics".

I'm going to guess the bumperettes are still there. All the photos without them on porcheusa.com are european cars with euro license plates. They will probably need to keep the bumperettes for collision damage regulation purposes.

I don't really notice them on my 997, I suppose I am used to them. The flat black ones on the early 996 models were truly hideous!

I agree, and Eric at Bumperplugs has a great solution.

And, I don't think our small USA license plates look very good in the large recessed space on the Euro bumpers, IMO.

If you look carefully at all the released photos, you will see two types of rear bumpers 'design' shown. One has the wider flat area for traditional European license plates and another has a more squared cut out shape in the back. In the pictures below, the 991's had customized European plate that are shaped similar to our US rectangular plates. This may be the 'our' US rear bumper design...and for any other world market which mandated a more rectangular license plates - of which there are many such entities.

See photos in post #146 by Carrera. The rear bumper on these two 991's - a 'Ruby' and Aqua Blue - could show what the US bumpers might look like.

They are definitely US spec cars. Note the yellow side marker lights.

The ugly black rubber bumperettes on my 996 saved the bumper from paint damage on more than one occasion! (I do agree it looks better without them)
