I hope they go with a full paintable top rather than the canvas cover. While this new version even in canvas looks much better than the old version. I can't believe you wont get wrinkles and burn marks using canvas over time. Also having to wash the entire car when you get bird and bug stains with a canvas top vs the ability to spot clean if the rest of the car is still clean. I'll still get one but I do like the new painted tops now available if they can manage the weight which I believe they can.

It's a look thing. Not there for any real penetration protection. I suspect Porsche was wrestling with the appearance of a cabriolet top that wasn't canvas--a first for them (or would have been). Baby steps. Maybe next time.

OK guess I'm gonna say it's all misdirection!
Seen the patten drawings for the metal folding roof and it kinda looks like a folding targa roof.
Meaning that the side rails fold in 2 (front slides into the back part) and store under the hump after the 4 center panels slide down.
Check out this rendering of the cab hardtop.
Also if you look at the spy shots you can clearly tell that the canvas is "glued" to a hard surface and especially at the rear window you can see this is a cut and paste job.
I say the hardtop cab will look very similar to this pic below and I can't wait!!!!
Edit I added a pic of the "camo" canvas covert roof, there are no seems or structure marks under the canvas visible at all, totally smooth.
Also no molding around the back window, canvas looks glued on.

A true hardtop cab would definitely interest me, in case they are clamoring for my opinion. Don't like canvas or vinyl tops (and have had more than one car of each type), but I could see a true hardtop cab as a valuable (to me) option.

I'm a newbie and not owned a 911 but hoping to get a 991TT and considering a cab. I need the rear seats to occasionally ferry my two small kids for short trips.
Do the 911 cabs have less rear seating space compared to the regular one?

The seat size is the same, but the seat backs on the cab don't lean back like a coupe, they lean slightly forward. You might think this is an uncomfortable position but for my kid in the back, he's never complained and he much prefers to ride in my car versus his Mom's Cayenne. He's 8 and he easily has another 3 years or so before it starts to get cramped.

I've been saying this for a year - that the canvas images look very odd with no spines and no wrinkles, had to be a hard top under there, but could simply be a coupe they were camo'ing for kicks. I like soft top.
