1st time 911 owner C4S 991
I have a ton of excitement and questions about this car. I’ve read 100’s pages of this forum and online in the past weekend.
I’ts a fairly average specification but it’s exactly what I wanted and a great deal, 70k miles but no real road rash, glass roof, interior does not look like a 70,000 mile car at all to me so I think that speaks to the quality of the platform. It is extremely well kept although a few trim pieces I probably will order to renew.
Issues:
-- TMPS light is on (but it just got new tires which is apparently when that started)
-- Fuel gauge doesn’t seem to work. Stuck on empty with the warning lamp on, even though it’s nearly full, and I’ve filled it up, no change - sensor or sending unit?
-- PPF is peeling on the hood and I’ll need to have that replaced.
-- It has a slight exhaust rattle when the car is cold at first start for about 1 minute
-- The radio starts on very loud every time I get in but I’ve read that’s “normal” for this generation
I’ve had M3’s (E46, E92) and this is my first Porsche and needless to say, extremely excited.
- I'm not aware of the radio always being loud, that isn't my experience. Is it the standard radio, Bose or Burmeister? Wonder if it was modified and returned to stock possibly and something isn't quite right?
I can’t comment on those electrical gremlins, but the radio volume might be a saved driver setting. Do you have seats with a memory function (14 or 18 way electric seats)? If so, make sure to store your preferred settings (including audio, HVAC, etc) to one of the memory settings and to the key, using the buttons on the door panel. Then get out and lock the car. That should keep the saved or last-used radio volume setting for next time you use that same key to unlock the car.
Unfortunately, the memory settings don’t allow you to save Bluetooth as the default audio source on startup, presumably because it takes a few seconds to connect. So, if you use a high volume setting while listening to tunes from your phone, that same high volume setting will be used when the car goes back to the default source (radio) next time you get in.
In my experience, the exhaust does sound fairly rattly on cold startup, until the baffles close. If your car has the Sports Exhaust, then switch PSE on and off a few times while driving, to check the exhaust note changes, confirming the valve actuators are working. The PSE valves can get sooted up and stuck in one position. Best remedy is to regularly switch between exhaust modes.
Happy motoring. I hope you enjoy your car as much as I’m enjoying mine.
Does your car have CEL related to communication of Fuel Information to your gauge?
Mine started working again, so I didn't bother repairing it. But all research pointed to a failed fuel sending unit. It's about a $200ish part. Replacement looks relatively simple on our cars.

BTW, congrats on the new to you Porsche!
Planning to try a TPMS reset. The issue apparently just started after the prior owner installed new tires (before I took ownership).
No CEL, or codes related to the fuel gauge, sending unit, fuel system - I hooked up a scan tool last night.
Anyone have a solid estimate of the range I can expect per tank until I get the fuel gauge sorted? (Driving style = aggressive, city/highway mix, so I don’t expect ideal fuel economy). I’m playing with fire not knowing fuel level on an unfamiliar car here.
@CSK 911 C4S wow 140k miles. Impressive.

Edit I have Burmester, I think it does this on Bose too.

That being said, it's a great car and will be good to you for a while.
