Default Intake filter or whole CAI?

Some cars I've owned in the past the dyno results showed the oem CAI+Drop in filter got better results than aftermarket ones. For a 991.1 C2s does that still apply? or is it proven that a aftermarket one generates better performance?

if your concern is only performance and you dont care about the added sound, the BMC filters should be enough

I just put a BMC filter in the factory intake in my 991.2 and called it a day. Admittedly, I haven't done any research on .2 air intakes but I'm a little dubious of the HP gain claims that are made. The factory intake is 'technically' a CAI based on the intake ports pulling air in from the rear grill inlet, and based on how cramped things are in the back of the turbo Carrera .2's, I can't imagine there is much room for improvement from the aftermarket. Curious to hear if anyone has had better results with an aftermarket CAI option.

Just buy the drop in filters like AFE and BMC, the entire "system" is negligible in gains. Anything else is a waste of money since nobody knows it's there but you.

Run stock air filters.....all the claims from aftermarket ones are bogus! I don't think you can find a dyno reading on YouTube that shows any increase in fact most show a decrease in power.......

The only fact about oiled filters, like BMC, is they need to be regularly re-oiled to actually function as a filter and stop dust particles. Which is fine, if you have easy access and are diligent with re-oiling, but that’s essentially no one with a 991 that requires the fascia and all the other stuff removed to even see the filter, let alone remove and re-oil said filter. It’s funny to me what people are willing to do to their engine for a questionable 10hp they won’t even feel the difference from.

BMC recommends cleaning and re-oiling their air filters every 20,000-25,000 kilometers (12,500-15,000 miles). I do mine every other year with my annual oil change / service (at about 7,500 miles).

for a intake filter i just like to get reuseable ones because one purchase that can last years and some reoiling seems more convenient

well. if its every 12k miles that would just mean i have to do it once a year which dosent seem too bad.

oem gt3rs air filters are bmc. you can buy them from porsche and they fit in almost all 991.1 but they're super marked up because its in a porsche box. if they were bogus, i dont see why porsche engineers would use it as an oem part.

It’s not bad, if you don’t mind the labor involved to R&R the rear bumper fascia, other misc., just to get to a part that provides minimal benefit over a factory part that lasts 4x as long without servicing.
