Default Got ticket 90/55 any ideas?

I kind of knew this was going to happen my car gets to 90 in about 6 sec. Driving down a four lane highway to get a coffee nice straightaway floor it and get hit with Lidar Gun, no warning on V2. Wouldn't have mattered because once they pull the trigger your done. I got a $550 fine and 6 points. Officer was very polite and I didn't expect to get a warning doing 90 in a 55.

My business partner got tagged in Virginia and paid a lawyer to get it dismissed. In fact he got a letter from the attorney telling him he could fix it.

I don't mind the fine, but 12 points and you can lose you license in South Carolina. I'm 70 so not sure how it might effect my insurance.

Really taken a lot of fun out of driving my car with this hanging over me.

Any suggestions

I've never used them, but a podcast I occasionally listen to has an organization that connects you with good traffic attorneys. https://offtherecord.com/

According to the podcast site, you can use the code: TSTPOD for 10% off.

Best of luck!

Yeah, sux that you have to pay to have some fun.

Get a traffic lawyer. They know people and judges and can get things done. I was in a similar situation years ago, and my speeding ticket was changed to "following too close." Big reduction in fine and points.

You have to pay the lawyer, of course, but was well worth it. Like you said, the points are the important thing.

In Va, 20 and more over the posted limit is mandatory jail time.

Even if you don’t “get off,” just having someone deal with and make the court appearances is worth the $ IMHO.

It won't help for this time, but if your state allows it have laser jammers installed, something like AI Priority

I don’t think that’s accurate. I believe 20+ over is automatic reckless and required to go to court. Depending on the situation I guess of course you could end up in jail.

It’s mandatory as Jason Werth found out as did a Jalopnik writer. I stand semi corrected

In New Jersey when ticketed for speeding you can go to court and personally plea bargain with the prosecutor for the municipality. Typically you'll agree to careless driving, which is a much bigger fine but no points. It’s kind of win-win, the town gets more money and your insurance isn’t affected. Really no need for an attorney.

DO NOT PLEADE GUILTY! My experience is lawyers and money will make the majority of your problems go away. You may be convicted of some minor traffic offense such as failure to keep right but points on your license and insurance issues will go away.

If laser is used quite a bit in your area, investing in quality laser jammers is a good investment. ALP is excellent but they are very visible on the nose of a Porsche. Stinger , fiber optics, if you want excellent performance and visual inspection invisibility.

I have many things I’d rather be doing than going down and waiting at a court to negotiate a fine with a municipal prosecutor. Paying a lawyer to handle that bull**** is worth the $ to me, which FYI is like $75, and half the time they get the charges dropped. I’m sure we all have a spare $75 and better things to do with our time.

I generally never go more than 10mph over a given speed limit but there is a joke in my family that Grandpa gets from zero to seventy faster than anyone else. I do plan to shift into second some day just to see what it feels like! 😊

My local freeways have a 75 mph speed limit and there are always others that have the need to go faster so I let them pass me then tag along at their speed about 1/4 mile behind them and let them deal with the police. When I am on my own on back country roads realize I may get a ticket and just enjoy the ride.

Get a lawyer. If it was in Virginia, DEFINITELY get a lawyer.

Just hire an attorney and let them handle. You may not even need to show up for anything.

My kid got a 115 in a 60 in WA earlier this year. The officer wrote it as a normal speeding ticket but noted the speeds. I hired an attorney and he got it completely dismissed. Best couple hundred bucks spent!
