Default Struggling with wanting to trade up to 992

Figure I vent here as I have in the past….

I have had my GTS (991.1) for close to 5 years at this point. 4.5 of those I have been modifying and making my project a fun iteration of a GT3 look with everyday drivability. Car has it all at this point - not much more I can tinker with (for a non track car - if I tracked it then the pandora box really can be opened).

Only thing I haven’t completed (which I want) is the rear bumper and GT3 exhaust. At times I think it’s not needed and a little overkill as it’s not a GT3 and should go all the way. Not to mention it’s a 8-15k project depending on exhaust I choose.

Fast forward the last 3 months.

I keep drooling over the 992 GT3. Kids are older and don’t really ride with me anymore - so rear seats not as important as they were.
I really love the Touring model - sexy and elegant with all the scream of a flat 6. Can’t really explain how good and different that motor sounds like vs. mine - it’s just incredible.

I also like the space inside, technology and overall finish of the 992. Really a great evolution.

I have always wanted to know what it also feels to have the ultimate version in my mind.

I say all this - but yesterday I went for a ride and ripped around town. Got a bunch of thumbs up - really got the emotional connection going again and thought it sounded awesome on the highway under some overpasses.

Am I crazy - I would need to spend another 150k to get the 992GT3 and is it that much better of a car?? I mean - we all been there when the newness of something wears off and you sorta think to yourself - what’s the big deal?

Maybe looking for someone to back me from ledge here or give me some advice/feedback on making this trade up.

I should also state that I have yet drive one to compare as the dealership doesn’t typically throw you the keys to try it.

When I am hit with these sorts of thoughts, I always ask myself: Would I rather have a slightly better 911 or $150k of something totally different? No wrong answer, but sometimes I think all the stair-step small differences in 911s can make it really easy to get locked into thinking you need more.

At the cost of 992 I’m looking at used McLaren 720S or Maserati MC20. Porsche jumped the shark with the MSRP + ADM on the 992. I have a lot of love for Porsche, but I doubt I’m buying any more new ones from them (although my wife may insist on another Taycan, she seriously loves that car so much). Even used ones are absurdly priced and there are many other fun and interesting cars to consider. Hell, I could keep my current 911 and buy a used a C8 Z06 and that would still be less than the price of a used 991.2 GT3 Touring. The market may be softening a bit, but it’s still wildly over inflated.

Enjoy your car. A GT3 car can only really be appreciated over a GTS on the track.

If you’re thinking about it….do it.
If you can afford it…..do it.
If no one objects…….do it!!!
You only live once. Do it for yourself.
When you’re happy, people around you are happy as well.

If you’re second guessing, you probably already have your mind made up. Just accept walking back from the ledge and invest or spend your money wisely.

I’ve seems many review of 992s being sub-par to the 991. I wouldn’t get a 992 with the money if it were my decision. The 991 is awesome and there’s other cool cars out there. The 992 just doesn’t seem worth it and Porsche is a bit nuts about pricing now. Plus, with all the mods you have, you are not likely to see any returns on it.

You and me both. Really struggling with the choice of upgrading to a 991.2 GT3 or a 488.

I started looking a little at the Maclaren 600LT and they look and seem amazing cars for what they have come down in price ($215-265k).

Thats a super car and maybe a little to much attention- but would likely be a very fun weekend car.

i still think a Porsche is the all-rounder - but as mentioned; it’s a lot of money to throw at something if it’s not that much better than the 991.1.

Tough call. Any pics of yours? Sounds like you have done a lot of stuff to make it your own which makes it a tough decision to make. I think the allure for newer and better is always there. It’s a tough call.

Maybe you’ve had your time in the 991 and ready to try something else.
