It’s a fairly easy DIY. Install instructions also at this link…..

The only more over-engineered than the Targa mechanism on a Porsche 911 is probably the cupholders.

I suggest riding in a Targa with the top “down” before you buy one. The wind buffeting, especially at higher speeds, which most think is worse than in a cab, bothers some people.

I heard this was a concern as well. Only 200 miles in to my ownership but hasn’t been a problem and haven’t noticed. Had the wife and kids in the car today. She has long hair, it was tied up but didn’t mention a word about it being too windy. I compare this to the RS with windows down which was very noticeable. I’m very impressed with the targa. Really is a fun car.

My wife has never complained about this....her closet would indicate on the "higher maintenance" side of the scale....
But yeah top down has more noise than top up.

I have had both the Cab and now the Targa. Hands down the Targa is the bomb. Driving with the top down is better than any session with a therapist LOL.
Agree the SmartTop is a no-brainer. One of the easiest mods.

Try adjusting the air deflector if you haven't already done so.

I felt this until I realized I could raise the buffeting bar. Once I did that there was no buffeting.

I also had the headliner tensioning cord break as reported in post #13 above. Car was 4.5 years old at the time with ~19K miles. Dealer took care of it under “goodwill” as I was out of warranty. I sold the car shortly thereafter, but it had nothing to do with the tensioning cord.

I will add that I never had any problems with the mechanical part of the targa operation. I think it’s over- engineered and that the Germans are proud of it. I mean, who else would paint the mechanicals to match the exterior color of the car if they weren’t confident in their work?
