Both the cab and targa mechanism are extremely reliable, so much so that they are carried over to the 992 generation unchanged. The cab's are more likely to need rear window regulator replacement with age (targa's don't have the small windows in the rear).

I’m a year down the road & use the Targa top on almost every drive; an occasional error light that goes away running the top full cycle. Let’s just say I will do another Targa if & when the time comes.

My Targa is a 2017 and has had zero issues with the top. I'd for sure buy another one.

Not adding much value to this thread but I had a 2008 Mazda Miata "hard top" convertible. Its mechanism was decades ahead of its design. It operated flawlessly for hundreds of times prior to me selling it. Funny the "hard tops" convertible seam more reliable than the convertilble mechanisms...

No issues here. 2014 Targa with 60K+ miles.

With the targa or the cab, best mod is installing the smart top module. Easy click open/close, vs having to hold the button for the full 20 seconds process. Also ability to open/close via your key fob.

Let’s hear some deets on this targa you are hunting.

@dak911 I am the 1% of Targa owners as I have had some issues with my top. I had the headliner tensioning cord break (different times on both sides). It happened before my car was out of warranty so not really a bit deal. Here is the thread if you are interested:

https://rennlist.com/forums/991/1198...r-failure.html

I will say this...even after the issues I had, I would buy another Targa, without hesitation. Keep us posted and PM me if you have any questions.

I had a cabriolet and traded it in on a 2019 Targa. It works perfectly and I take it up or down daily.

Curious where did you source the "smart top module"? And, were you able to do the install yourself?
